Comments (107)Shannon, you must have been REALLY BUSY gardening the last year not to have noticed by now that Spike sold Gardenweb to iVillage way back last November (most of us didn't know until about March or April, actually). They've been talking about making these sort of changes for some time, and I see they're finally implemented (although I HAVE actually seen posts somehow "magically exceed the limit before -- one in the ponds forum made it to 107 replies before it was blocked, and nobody every knew how or why)... You may also notice that there are now more than 10 pages for the main forum area... This one has 19... Ponds forum had 23 last time I checked. Kinda spoils the fun of having a thread max out and getting to be the one to max out your own thread and all that sort of jazz (and Aislinn, I feel like you sorta just got cheated)... on the other hand, for the long run, it's better for all of us. And for the record, I think Claire, Aislinn and most of y'all are Queens, Princesses, Princes, Dukes, Dukes, Dukes, Dukes of Earl... yadda yadda yadda... y'all are ALL just wunnerfull... An' I really really mean it!!! :) Jeff Really, I do!...See MoreMiele vs. other brands
Comments (2)I love my Miele washer and dryer. I don't have the super capacity and I don't have wrinkled clothes! Of course I am would assume that you would be looking at getting the large capacity washer with the corresponding large capacity dryer. It wouldn't make sense to get a super capacity washer and expect everything to fit in the large (smaller) capacity dryer. One of the things I especially love about my Miele dryer is that there is NO static. The instructions say you must NOT use those anti static sheets because they clog up something and also you don't need to. There are major differences between the European dryers and the North American dryers. The European technology is far superior. The North American dryers design seems to have frozen in the sixties or perhaps even before that. I don't understand your comment about changing technologies and the dryer becoming obsolete??? If the North American dryers manufacturers can get away with continuing to use such an old design, your Miele dryer will be decades ahead . I would not worry about that at all. Unless your friends are really snobs and say to you in a few years time, hmmm how come you don't have the new Platinum dryer. BTW, a dryer is not a laptop....See MorePaint Finishes Brand vs. Brand
Comments (6)In my kitchen, the hairline fractures of the painted finish on my Wood-Mode cabinets (the finish itself is available on either Brookhaven by Wood-Mode or Wood-Mode) were not just in the joints where the panels come together but also other random places. The panels came that way from Day One. Knowing what I do now, I'd probably opt for stained instead of painted cabinetry even though I like the painted look better in my particular kitchen. Our 25 plus year old Wood-Mode cherry cabinets that were stained never had any problems with their finish. That was one reason we went with Wood-Mode brand product again. But, Wood-Mode cabinets weren't structurally perfect. During our time owning our old Wood-Mode cherry kitchen, we did have to repair it, and one upper cabinet did fall apart to the point that it was unrepairable. Showrooms aren't a great place to see how good a finish will look in your home because anything flawed in a showroom's display was likely replaced to give a good impression. They are likely to have used their best installers with their best skills and more patience when building the showroom displays. We've been to 6 Wood-Mode and Brookhaven by Wood-Mode showrooms. None of them showed the painted finish cracks that our cabinets show. The Wood-Mode Home Care touch up kits do not fix the hairline cracks, either. After the kitchen is done, we actually do have more cabinetry needs. We had planned to do Wood-Mode or Brookhaven cabinets for our hallways, entertainment center and two bathrooms, but because of the poor customer service from the manufacturer when we have had complaints, we will be favoring other cabinet companies and we will be favoring stained finishes. At first, Wood-Mode tried to blame my house for the cracking on the newly installed cabinets. They sent someone out to test the humidity in the house. Our house is reasonably climate controlled. We are in a temperate climate and use our heating and air conditioning in a usual fashion. We don't use humidifiers or swamp coolers. The house is not the problem. Something with their finish is the problem. Really, these big cabinet companies need to invest in research to figure out a way to make a painted finish that doesn't have so many problems. If you do buy painted cabinets, carefully inspect all doors and reject all doors and drawers with defects at the door of your house. Don't let them bring it in. Demand immediate replacements even if it slows down the project. Here is an example of the fissures in my kitchen. This door is at eye level. It is very noticable:...See MoreSinks double vs single & name brand vs store brand
Comments (7)I'm not sure I can answer all of your questions correctly so I will just say what was my very recent experience. I too, compared the store brand to the Blanco that was on display in the kitchen section. I liked the "feel" of the Blanco better. I priced the Blanco silgranit sink at Lowe's...(they would special order it )and it was quite a lot more than what I could purchase it for online. (approx. $200 more) I got the 60/40 sink. My DW is on the left. The large bowl is on the left. The smaller bowl with my garbage disposal is on the right. I would have preferred it to be in the opposite postion, but it wasn't available that way at place I was ordering it from. So I am living with it and it is not really a big deal for me. Personally I prefer a double bowl...but I know there are many on this forum who prefer the single. I like to have a sink for washing and a sink for rinsing/draining/disposing of stuff etc... Good luck and I hope I helped....even a little bit:) Here is a link that might be useful: blanco 441128...See Morekimmiej
