Condo: painting a tiny entry foyer/staircase walls - advice

White is nice but boring. Any ideas you can share for something different? Down in the foyer and staircase, it is kinda cramped and not much light... there IS a skylight overhead but it's so-so in terms of light-giving. The staircase leads into my apartment where the walls are a warm white (BM Vanilla Ice Cream), and the apartment is bright upstairs and overlooks a marina/water.

I'm thinking maybe a yellow? Good yellows are hard to choose. Taupe could work but might look dank? Grey-blue would be nice too since the apartment overlooks a marina (once you've gone up the stairs).

2nd question, how would I transition the different color paint from downstairs to upstairs? It continues into the same wall upstairs that is the creamy white. Thanks for any help or suggestions!
