removing mini closet - should I do shelves or just a wall? (pics)

I have this funky little broom closet that we don't use. It's too small and angled to be good for anything but a broom closet and there's no room to expand it. (Backside is the refrigerator.) This is just what was left when previous owners did a remodel and removed a bedroom.)

Anyway, the handyman said he could put more shelves in there but they would all be the same funny angle. Or I could just have him remove the door and molding and give me a smooth wall for perhaps some family pictures.

(The door to the right goes into the only downstairs bathroom. To the left is the kitchen and dining. Behind where I stood to take the picture is hubby's office.)

I was thinking it would be nice to have shelves for display but they're really be funky looking so maybe just a smooth wall would be best? Opinions anyone?
