I just had new glass and a new door put on my shower. It needed to be replaced so we decided there was a shelf (apart of the tub surround)on the other side of the glass. When we changed out the glass,we moved one wall out to get that shelf on the inside of the shower so there would be move elbow room(floor space is the same)and to make the shower feel bigger. By moving the glass over 6 inches, there is a yellow stain where the old glass wall and frame where and it's also on the shelf. I tried the magic eraser from Mr. Clean but no luck. The wall and shelf are a marble surround (or maybe a marble look alike is probably more like it). I welcome all cleaning tips! Thanks Janet

Just replace them with new wooden ones. They can usually be removed, and new ones installed, without disturbing the trim too much, or even at all. As an alternative you could use one of the Peel-Away type paint removers and get rid of the paint in a couple (at most) coats. Then repaint with non-lead paint and you'd be good to go. The peel-away products can be expensive to use for large projects but for what you're talking about it shouldn't too bad. And because they encapsulate the paint (when you peel it away) there is less chance of chips breaking off and getting ground up into dust. Almost any gel-type (even if not peel-away style) of paint remover, if used carefully would work. A fairly un-stinky, but still effective, one is made of soybeans (Soy-Gel?). I've used it on floor paint and it melts the stuff enough for efficient scraping, with very little problem with bits falling away. Then you clean the wood with a citrus stripper. Since your're going to repaint, I would simply go over it with fine steel wool, then repaint. No need to sand, unless you want a super smooth surface which would be somewhat wasted for a door threshold, anyway. HTH, Molly

They're pondering the problem now and deciding what to do. They're good guys - but they just do not think about these kinds of details. I had a fabulous GC who did my kitchen remodel and he was just so good about raising every possible question and consideration and never assumed anything.....so there were no surprises..... Well, I'll know the next time to ask.....though I asked and specified hinge color and they got that wrong - easy enough to fix though.

Could you notch the bottom of the storm door frame so it can move in closer to the threshold? Hard to say without more detail.
