Please dont hate me--reposting my finished kitchen!!! Pics!

Augh!!! I rearranged my albums in photobucket and now my pics on my last post about my finished kitchen went missing! And even though I reposted them at the bottom of that post, who's going to scroll all the way to the bottom when all you see is Photobucket telling you the pics are not viewable?!

I did submit my photos to Starpooh's finished kitchen blog so hopefully people can check them out there. Nothing like spending 12 months checking out this website daily and then not being able to post your pics a) big enough for people to see and 2) or the pictures go completely missing!

If you already commented, I appreciated your feedback. And I'm not looking for additional comments or pats on the back. Just want my post to have it's moment in the spotlight :) Thanks for understanding, and sorry that I cannot figure out the resizing issue...maybe it will be better viewed on photobucket? (link below)

Karen, no need to apologize! You're making it convenient for people to see, even with the vagaries of wonky systems like GW and Photobucket. I missed your first post so am glad to see your new kitchen. It looks nice and light and part of a happy home. Congratulations!

Your photos are still small. Have you read all the instructions on how to fix? Regardless, very impressive!

flyleft, I thought about putting china white on the ceiling, but it looked so grey on the swatch I was afraid it would look dirty. In fact I was worried the China White would not be enough contrast with the Revere Pewter on the lower wall. The lower wall I can repaint myself if it's wrong, so I'll take a chance, but not these tall ceilings! I made that mistake once before, painted a room Rosemary Sprig a beautiful medium green, then painted the ceiling just a touch warmer then ceiling white, and boy, it looked like cr@p. The ceiling looked just plain dirty and I had to live with it for years. Won't do that again!

lynn2006, thanks for the link. I did find it. I think I've got it narrowed down to a 2x4 in silver sands slate or a quartzite in the golden white or oracle. I think the brick shape is a nice medium between the diamond I have now (and like the shape of) and 4x4 squares I don't care so much for.The store we hoped to buy it at (prices are great) doesn't carry Crossville, and that's where we'll be stopping on our way home from vacation, but I really want to look at the Oracle too so maybe we'll have to make an another trip to the Big City. Wow, thank you, everyone, for your kind and encouraging words. Having spent countless hours, taking notes from this site (even when I knew some things were impossible to achieve in this kitchen) and quietly admiring all of your beautiful kitchens, from the big, jaw-dropping ones to the smaller, but oh so lovingly personalized ones, it means a lot to me and my SO that so many of you like what we've done so far. As newbies to all of this, we questioned every single small decision we made, and then questioned it some more, never quite sure if we made the right choice--especially going with practically the same color floor and cabinets--so it's great to get some positive feedback. Except the soffit. We never questioned that decision. We knew those had to vamoose! You should see the ones we took out of the bathrooms! EEEeeeeek! Anyways, thank you so much!

Rookie - You know I love your kitchen. I agree with Emily - let it happen naturally. I was surprised with my kitchen that little things like dish towels and bowls I already owned are giving me direction for accent colors. I have this great bright/slightly olive green pottery bowl with a bunch of red and yellow tomatoes in it that looks amazing with my gray/white/stainless/natural wood kitchen. I also have some nice darker blue/not quite navy towels that also look great and a vase of sunflowers were "wow". I didn't imagine these were colors that would look good but with such a neutral backdrop vibrant things just pop - real life things not props - in the kitchen. If you really want to find some "colors" - just buy a bunch of dish towels and drape then on your stove for a few days to see how it does.

Pllog--thank you for the kind words and understanding. It is a happy kitchen in a happy home.

Doraville--yup, I know they are still small. In the battle of Karin vs Photobucket Resizing feature, the Resizing feature won. I surrender and acknowledge my defeat.

I am about as sick of looking at these photos as I'm sure everyone else is who saw my original post and now this post so to spare everyone including myself added frustrationg--they will remain small and I can sleep soundly at night knowing that at least mini-pics of my kitchen made their debut on the Internet!

I commend (sp?) everyone who takes awesome pics of their kitchen. I've learned now the key is 1 or 2 overall pics and mostly close-ups. I realize I missed these close-up shots.

Oh well, live and learn. I'm 31 years old and this prob wont be my last kitchen remodel in my life...(although possible, I guess.)

Next time I'll ACE the posting aspect of the kitchen remodel...who knew that would be my biggest hurdle?! LOL!

karin, again good job on the remodel and thanks for the effort to resize and for sending to starpooh. Now we don't have to pester you!

I had the same trouble with sizing. Try this, and if it doesn't work, don't worry about it. I asked here and got this advice: see where it says "Upload images & videos"? Directly under that, the next thing, see a blue link in ( ) labeled "More options"? Click on that. See what it's set on. "Large" is a good default size.

The BB looks great along with the rest of your kitchen!

Karin_2009, I love the changes that you have made. What is the beautiful counters that you used? Any close-ups? Can you give us some details on the kitchen cabinets? Thank you for posting the pictures again.

Karen, darlin', you ace'd the whole thing! Your kitchen is wonderful! The butcherblock is amazing. ENJOY your kitchen!!

(BTW, as jsweenc said, you have to upload them as "large". I think what I found was that once photos were on Photobucket, you could reduce them, but not make them bigger).

Wow! I'm so glad you re-posted, I am in awe of that butcherblock- it's stunning! All of your kitchen is amazing, great choices.

Jsweenc--Thanks for the resizing instructions. I will see if I can make that work or if nothing else, use those instructions for future posts :)

lynn2006--thanks for reminding me to post the details of the kitchen finishes:

Some basics of what I can remember:
Flooring--Oak Hardwood
Cabinets--Schrock, Galena style, Wheat color.
Countertop--Granite, New Venetian Gold on upper island (breakfast bar) and perimeter cabs& butcherblock on lower island cabs.
Appliances--microwave and stove are GE. Fridge and Dishwasher are Sears kenmore Elite (got about $1000 off the price of the DW due to a small dent!)

Cost breakdown (rough)
Cabinets: $7,211.25
Granite: about $3500
Appliances: about $3500
Flooring: maybe $1000+ installation
Lighting: $600
Labor costs: approx $5000 (not sure as we had our whole house renovated so things run together...)
APPROX Price of kitchen reno: $21,600

karin, I saw your response on the wood top thread and thought you'd be more likely to see this on your own thread... you said mineral spirits is what your brother recommended for your BB. Are you sure he didn't say/mean mineral oil? I think mineral spirits is used to remove paint from brushes, and not food safe. Mineral oil, OTOH, is food grade and will not go rancid (as opposed to olive or vegetable oil). Maybe that's what you meant and mistyped, but I just wanted to be sure!

Karin_2009 thank you for the details and the price break-down. You got a great price on your new cabinets making me feel maybe for my small kitchen new kitchen cabinets will be affordable for me after all. I still have a few more deadlines to finish before I will have time to get estimates. I seem to like several styles I am finding out. I would like granite counters after seeing a house with them yesterday in person.
