How to clean drywall dust?
Comments (18)We have been in our new house now for 10 months. The contractor said we would have some construction dust for a few months. 10 months later, we get, every day a light dusting on the granite counter tops, stove top etc.. Even when the furnace has not run for over a week. The contractor had the ducts cleaned and still we get it. Its a fine white powder, so I assume its drywall dust. I have sent a sample away to be tested. Someone said this is possible if they did not seal the drywall before they painted. Is this possible? That it wouold bleed through the paint. And how can we fix it? I have been having sinus problem for about 5 months now. The doctor does not belive it allergies. What are long term effects of this type of exposure? ANy help would be greatly appreciated....See MoreHow to clean loose asbestos in bathroom?

Comments (15)@kudzu9 Sorry for asking again and thanks so much for answering! I probably didnt explain well as its hard to write it, this but these were 2 seperate situation. First is putting and removing screws in my old aparment with asbestos in plaster and mud in the walls. Nothing was wiped that time and the possible dust went to shoes, bed, carpet, stuff on floor...Put the 13 nails and 10 screws 4 year ago in, half year ago out before moving. Half year ago I took all that stuff with me to new aparment. Second situation is in my new condo restoration company now removed new laminate floor 10x10feet (there was leak and mold under) Under the new laminate floor was another old wood floor with paint spots and dust left from renovation what happened 2 year ago, they just didnt wipe the floor properly and covered it with new floor (they were removing the kitchen wall to have it open, I am sure part of the textured ceiling was disturbed as well becasue of new long lights and the removing the wall in kitchen, bathrooom, new plugs...) This is the conco before renovation. This is new: The restoration company now continued working on drying and removing the old floor (with possible asbestos dust left from renovation 2 year ago, the dust was there burried for 2 years since the new floor was on top of it), taking it out, puting fan on it and sanding with everything going into air and kitchen and living room and furniture. So wondering if the possible asbestos dust left from 2 year ago renovation and paint drops from possible asbestos ceiling, if they were send to air to whole condo how much asbestos would that be? There was furniture and carpet next to it and stuff what i cant all wipe... After this I wiped all the living room and kitchen but I could smell the dust even in bedroom when they were removing the floor so was going under door even to other rooms. My most concen is how much asbestos could be in furniture and all the stuff what cant be wiped or hidden dust under beds and places where i cant reach. Thanks!!...See MoreDrywall question - is asbestos a concern for partial demo?
Comments (19)FYI: The house was built in the late 1940s, and the renovated walls pictured above were put in sometime before 1992. I am a bit nervous that a test will reveal asbestos above EPA limits and that will lead to costly remediation. No idea how much abatement of three walls of drywall with asbestos would cost or what my insurance would say. Might have to bite the bullet and have the cleaning team just do the flood cut. I called a local asbestos test company, and the expert there told me, “should be ok.” Of course, when I asked the cleaning crew how they would cut the drywall, they told me they would just saw across the wall. Anyway, the vast majority of people whose opinions I have sought have said they would just do the cut....See Moreasanee
