anyone use arabesque or ashbury backsplash tile?
Comments (15)Madeline616 is planning on using the WZ Ashbury. If you google for this site and the word "Ashbury" you'll find a few threads mentioning it including hers. As I mentioned the other day, the arabesque/moroccan shape is becoming very popular. I read on a couple of tile blogs that the trendiness of them makes designers think they will read "so 2010-ish" in the near future. Bee, don't ask me the names of the tiles blogs as I have read way too many lately. I think its trendy because the shape is something different than what we've seen in a while. The ubiquitous white sub seems "done" now so the arabesque is next in the design world. It's being used all over in design, not just tiles. Katieob was planning on using the WZ in powder blue and even posted asking us to help her feel brave enough to use them. In the end, she went with white subs in a slightly different size because the shape and/or color felt too risky for her. I, personally, love the shape but am also afraid of it looking too dated as a backsplash. True, many things will ultimately date a kitchen. And yes, backsplash tile is relatively easy to change out if you tire of it. But do who really does that? I'm still considering it for the same reason as you. I think it looks a bit vintage and is definitely interesting. Anyway, enough of my pre-coffee ramblings and unwanted opinions. Bee has used it. Madeline616 will use it. If you love it, you should do it too! Then we can all oooh and aaah over it. :)...See MoreKitchen almost complete - Arabesque Backsplash?!
Comments (20)Thanks so much!!! I am definitely in the lead. I did have a bit of a bummer though Saturday and I wanted to mention it for you Quartzite owners. I was re-sealing my Quartzite and realized that it now has two HUGE etched spots. We had a BBQ last weekend and I had a dispenser of Beergaritas (tequila, beer, limeade, and lots of lime juice) and I guess someone had spilled some and it didn't get wiped up right away. I am so tempted now to try at evenly etch the rest of it. I'm probably the only one who will really notice it though. Hopefully I will win this contest so once I have that beautiful Arabesque backsplash, REALLY no one will notice the etchings!...See MoreThe Mad Hatter installed my backsplash! (pic)
Comments (14)That's something they suggested - maybe the guy had done these tiles last, and had to mix up a last little bit of thinset and got it too watery. The top-right tile in the pic easily moved with very little touch (I poked them a bit to see if they were "set", since the rest of the areas were solid). The rest didn't budge, though, so I can't even guess what actually happened. :) Stopped by during lunch and all the tiles in that area were pulled down & they were prepping for re-application tomorrow. We have probably 25 - 30 linear feet of wall done in this tile, and this small area (about 4 sq ft) is the only part that didn't look great....See MoreMy backsplash is finally installed!
Comments (18)Guys, you are the greatest. Sometimes I think I have too much going on but I like an eclectic look. I am not sure how my pics ended up horizontically. It's the strangest thing. Desertsteph- my lower cabinets are a distressed dark green. Some people have told me to paint them white but I really love the color. My work tablle is an old butcher block that was used in a meat shop and it's indestructable! Thanks again for the nice feedback....See Morepoohpup
