Is either a barn door or a pocket door a possibility?

We are remodeling our 1937 colonial and plan to remove the wall between the present dining room and the new kitchen. We would like to be able to partially close this opening at times. The present plan calls for a beam in the ceiling between these two rooms. We can have a wide cased opening which could hold a pocket door instead or we could hang a barn door apparatus on the beam or wall if we do not use a beam. The room is 12'7" wide and the available space to house the pocket door is only about 5' on both sides (the door would slide in about 5' on either side). This would leave a 2'7" gap in the middle so that is probably not a great idea. If we use the barn door type of track, could we could slide the doors (2 of them) to the center and leave space to walk at either end? What keeps the barn door from swinging? They would be open most of the time but there are times when we would like to hide the mess in the kitchen from the formal dining room. All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
