Changing old hinged door to pocket door

I'm concerned that our proposed pocket door will be a problem.

We were all set to change doors in two places to a pocket doors. We were going to use the 1920s doors that were already there...and refit them. But we were at a neighbors home who did the same thing, and I was struck by how heavy the door felt when I opened and closed it. It seemed ok for occasional use...but a problem for frequent use. It was enough of a problem that we would probably NOT install a door in the heavily used area.

But we'd really pocket doors? Is the problem with the neighbor, the reuse of an old heavy door? Did the neighbors have poor hardware? (they have theirs in a laundry room and didn't note the heaviness). Should we use a new "lighter" door --even though we prefer to keep the look of the doors the same within the house?
