I don't have a problem with it depending on the way the whole kitchen looks. I just did my kitchen with white upper cabinets and gray lower. I switched from electric range to gas and the one that fit my needs as to features, cost and appearance was stainless, and the KD urged me to go with a micro-hood since my kitchen is small and I needed a new microwave, too. SS made sense for that, too. I reused my white fridge to save $$$ and I think it looks ok; KD agreed. Reused white DW, too, but I painted it gray to match the cabinets. I'm happy with the result. But, I tend to like eclectic looks anyway. Not the best shot, but here's a picture of part of it (and a close-up of the backsplash accent since it barely shows up):

As already mentioned, it depends on proximity. I wouldn't put titanium right next to stainless, and I wouldn't mix one manufacturer's fingerprint free, stainless look with that of another manufacturer, because they're often different colors. Going all titanium might mean having to get all your appliances in one brand, and that, in my opinion, isn't the best way to choose appliances. Different compainies do different appliances well, and it's best to choose each appliance based on features and performance that fit your needs (and budget). If your fridge is not right next to another appliance, go ahead with the titanium fridge you want and do the rest in stainless.

Dear Johnny Dollar, My kitchen planner/cabinet rep was the one who suggested alder with this stain to soften the redness in the wood. I had initially wanted natural maple, as in our old kitchen. The light color of maple just was not right with the madre perla, the new oak floors, and all the other colors. The softness of the wood was never discussed and this is the first time that I have heard about it. We are almost empty nesters, so this kitchen will not get as much wear and tear as in a family with young kids. So far no gauges or dents or chips. The cabinets were made halfway across the country from where I live, so staining was not done on my premise. The finish on the cabinets looks very even.

For starters I wouldn't get black stainless because of all the issues I have read in terms of the finish just being easily scraped plastic. As a design feature, I would do as another poster suggested and get panel ready appliances for that wall of cabinets so there is a cohesive look.
