Mine is like the third one down - (Campbell-kitchen-remodel) but I only have crown molding along the top of the cabinets and nowhere else. I don;t have it along the top of the windows or in the eating area etc.

I really like the look of those sleek chimney hoods and I want open space over the cook-top, no cabinetry, but cannot figure out the trim thing.

I asked this question a few weeks ago. I wish we could get an expert to chime in.

I believe I have seen some molding applied to the cabinets on each side and sort of stretched across, like you used to see at the top of a window over a sink to hide a light bulb. But I can't find a pic.

Looking at more pics, the look you can achieve seems to depend somewhat on ceiling height, or, in the case of soffits, effective ceiling height.

Of course, these are straight-sided hoods. The slope-sided ones do have a different look, and probably don't cry out as much for a finishing touch.

I am pretty sure that there must be a way to put one of those chimney hoods that are often used for islands. I like how slim they are.

Something like this might work but I don't want upper cabinets so close to the cooktop.

Like Jamies, I posted about this when I was at that point in my reno. I thought the beauty of my hood would be diminished, but didn't know what to do with my crown. A complicating factor for me were the flanking windows. In the end, I let the crown die into the wall at the upper cabs near the hood. Hood speaks for itself this way. I think hoods done like this look awesome! If you really start to look around, you'll see this a lot.

Another option is to do what Thynes did (don't have a pic handy) in her/his kitchen, which is to run the crown around and over the hood where it meets the ceiling.

yes, I see that people have no problems with a "stand-alone" hood in traditional kitchens, like this one:
