Crown molding and vent hoods

If the kitchen has crown molding along the entire perimeter and wall cabinets are going all the way to the ceiling (with suffits or not), is integrated hood an only option?

I have looked through all the recent kitchen posts and couldn't find any that fit this description.

There are few on Houzz that have non-integrated hood but I am not sure I like how they look.

(This one below looked really weird IMHO:

If one wants a non-integarted hood, what is one to do with the trim/molding?
