I just posted this on the Home Decorating forum, but realized, it probably should be posted in furniture. Any suggestions for the seat cushion for a chair I am having reupholstered? What do most good upholsters use? I ordered a spring-down cushion (which is what I have on most of my upholstered pieces)through the mfr. of the chair. This chair is only ten years old, so I was able to order the spring down cushion, but the other chair is a very old wing chair, handed down through my grandmother. It is lovely - channel back, beautifully-carved mahogany legs. I know I don't want anything too tailored and tight, but do most upholsters have different types of cushions available or is their an industry standard with upholsters and cushions? I talked to one upholster who uses foam wrapped in soft Dacron. When I get organized, I will post the pictures and get everyone's opinion on the fabric. I will need some extra eyes and perspective! Thanks guys!!!I was leaning towards #4 also. Of course, it's the most expensive as well. Good point Les about the curves in the cabinets. I didn't even realize that, but thought the stools went with the curves in the dining chairs. I'm not sure if there is any way to relocate those brackets, although it makes sense to do so. The stools are counter height so they should fit (and I've had other stools there before that worked out ok) but I'll be sure to measure. Another good point!

Nah, I didn't think it was harsh. Don't worry about it. If you have to cut off a conversation, you have to cut it off! No big deal. No, they're not birdcage hardware. Here's a closer pic (although a bit blurry)... Closer look at the window treatment. This is the best one I've got. It's hard to see but it has tannish circle swirly things on it: Here's looking into the kitchen from the dining area: Backsplash: I'm thinking casual or traditional or a mix of the two. But when I step back and look at our current barstools, they look too formal...even though everyone seems to love them. It seems like every day I loathe them more and more. They're heavy and the sound they make on the floor when you move them is awful, especially now that most of the rubber pads are gone. And the wobbling! Aaahhh!

I like the idea of fabric stools. You've got a lot of wood in there, maybe something with fabric would be nice. Find a nice fabric and reupholster some cheaper ones. Or, have slipcovers made. Outdoor fabric works great, just wipe off. If you're more interested in neutral fabric, try a neutral pleather in ostrich. My friend had some stool seats in that, it looks really modern and beautiful. Those are really easy to wipe down with kids. And, an added bonus would be that fabric stools won't scratch or mar the back of your cabinet run. We get scratches there with our wood stools slamming into them. Did I tell you we've got a two and four year old? I plan on eventually changing them out when the money fairy stops by. :) Kim
