I was looking through the coffee tables at Homedecorators.com and came by this one. With little kids I thought it was great.
It's very original. Too bad it's $1000!!
But take a look through their selection. They have a lot and I like their furniture.

FWIW, if you really do love the look of glass on a coffee table but think it's impossible because of the kids, a glass shop can cut a thick sheet of clear acrylic (like Lucite or Lexan) to substitute for the glass. Some types can even be beveled.

mlraff53, the table that you linked at HomeDec is also available at Amazon for $899 w/ free S&H. Just thought you might like to know. I was surprised when I ran across it there recently while looking for something like that for our family room.

Oh, and I was also looking at some acrylic coffee tables, but most of those cost a bomb, or are just too modern looking. This one is nice b/c it has a traditional shape.

I shopped for my coffee table for 4 years. They just don't make many like what I wanted and needed:

a. Must be open bottomed with legs, not pedestal (I have dogs that chase balls through all the tables in my house)

b. Must be oval to fit in nicely in the space

c. No glass (too hard to clean BTDT)

d. Traditional styling, but NO Queen Anne legs, preferably no metal either

e. No more than 48" in length

So you see, I had a LOT of "musts"! I finally found one I could love in January after umpteen bajillion google searches - here it is...

mlraff53, I thought of that last table right after kgsd showed the pic of the end table, lol. I remember looking at Horchow when they had the mirrored furniture sale.

Ooh, mlraff, I love the ones you suggested. I would die for that mirror table and it's a pretty good price. I could just imagine the fingreprints, though...
