Follow-up: 1. The compressor cycled to 120 psi at least 4 times in the open "cold" garage w/o a smell. 2. I could hold or touch the cyls and head through all cycles, less at the head and no at transfer tube. 3. The transfer tube moving air from head to manifold to tank was hot quick with a fitting leaking slow moisture. The potential smell due to moisture w oil vapor on hot manifold/pipe. Naturally I cleaned the signs of moisture/oil at manifold and dust/grime on top of cyls head. Tightening the compression fitting will be another day since a snugging w/n work and the seep is so small. 4. The original 1972 serpentine belt is bouncing/deteriorating and needs changing soon. 5. The moisture reservoir needs a larger valve/hose due to restricting oil in 1/2 cup of moisture. Too many tools to maintain keeps you working and behind at times!!!

Ah, this is a great thread, and I'm glad to see it come around again . . . To add to Linda's thoughts about planning a house in which to age, we just lost my grandmother, who lived to be not quite 100. In caring for her, I saw things that were /weren't easy for her, and I've filed those thoughts away for our house project. Doorways and hallways weren't even remotely a problem for her; likewise, she never had trouble with outlets. These are the things that did give her pause: - The bathroom was her biggest problem, and it was also the place where she did not want help! While she was in her old house, stepping into the tub was difficult for her. She had a shower chair and could pull the curtain around herself, but raising her legs up over the tub ledge was next to impossible. When she moved, her walk-in shower was better . . . but it would've been better still if it had been a true no-barrier entry. She put her shower chair into the shower, but it was cramped. A BIG, accessible shower should be tops on the list of every person concerned with aging in place. - Her at-home toilet was easy for her because it was not jammed into a closet. She could scoot her walker right up to it, and then she had a handrail on the wall. However, she was forced to wear Depends when we went out because getting in /out of a bathroom stall in a restaurant /store was difficult /time consuming for her. - Changes in flooring, even small increments like a 1" threshhold between carpet and tile, was a difficulty for her. - One of the things that helped her most in going in/out of the house (where one step was unavoidable) was a grab bar both inside and outside the door. - We were glad that she had a garage with ONE big door rather than two small doors. This meant that whoever was driving her could pull into the center of the garage, allowing her ample room to move around the edges with her walker. - In her last year, she started to use a wheelchair when she left the house, but inside she still used only her walker -- I think this is very typical. She had a little spot right by the door that was PERFECT for storing a wheelchair. If she hadn't had that little spot, the wheelchair would've been knocking around in people's way all the time. If you think you might need an electric wheelchair (or Rascal, or whatever), plan an electrical outlet in this spot so it can charge. That's what comes to mind at the moment. I may think of more later. Paige, I'd think twice about putting ALL your electrical outlets mid-wall. Kids are only small for a short time, and you can block off outlets (personally, mine never even noticed them, so this was never a problem for us at all), but you don't really want all your electric cords to be "so visible" constantly. Some are hidden behind sofas, beds, whatever -- but think about where this is appropriate and where it would be an eyesore.

Lovemkitchen, what do you mean "shopped your house"??? I had visions of keeping only a few things when we restored the derelict garage as my TEahouse. So far, it is packed up with flooring for our remodel, appliances and old doors I must strip to reuse, plants wintering over, house contents from DH's move south from Massachusetts....with tons and tons of heavy textbooks included. Thank heaven the buyers of his home wanted all the furnishings left! Even pictures on the wall. So I think I did pretty good turning that house from dowdy to desirable. Didn't even take down the curtains or remove sheets from the bed! I think that is amazing. But I have no room to put anything else from our current house out there until they use up the flooring and install the appliances. What remains inside with us while the remodel work progresses must squeeze into the sunporch or the walk in closet and master bath, which won't have wood floors installed. They are all tiled. I'm sure I'll need help moving that queen mattress because I cannot even DRAG it a few inches when it gets out of square on the bedframe. I wish ALL MATTRESSES were required to have handles on both sides. It just makes sense. I have a folder of humor that I moved to this computer, too good to lose. Some Maxine cartoons. And a few other things. I also loved Larson's Far Side cartoons. And as our construction work progresses, I can sure appreciate the king being upset about the moat! This is a bit off the ? I posted of collectibles, but really I guess related too! I too have used Ancestry.com earlier but found a few things I had asked them about but wasn't sure of the accuracy... they then posted it as factual & not as the question posted by me?! I have also gone to the local Mormon churches here & they are very helpful but a lot of more info. must be kept in Salt Lake City too. The genealogist in Sweden that did my genealogy a few times used Ancestry I noticed though also. Since my grandfather came as an adult to the U.S. from Sweden & my Dad a first generation here in the U.S. and I am a second generation & as our families are small, it was fairly easy for her to trace my small 'tree' here in America & go way back in Sweden where the families didn't move around much! I only paid for her to search back 3 generations in Sweden & then to America but may some day have her go back further & also find some very distant cousins living there in Sweden today! It becomes addictive, doesn't it! I find by my making a family 'Tree' (drawn like/as a tree!) on poster sheets, that for me it is so much easier to trace the ancestry than in the genealogists' way I guess in a book-like form. My Mother's tree (Drake) goes directly back now from me to the 1500's in England & was done by one of her uncles years ago. Now that DNA is available & getting a bit cheaper, wouldn't it be interesting what other things are in our ancestry to add to the 'tree'?!! As a little girl I always was interested in the people in the old photos & listened to the conversations of the old relatives at get-to-gathers & have always made sure all photos were named/labeled & perhaps dates (so many photos kept of 'people' but no writing on the backs: worthless!!) Fourteen albums (so afar!) all arranged in order & with a 'directory' I made to help to retrieve something if I need to. My family has found it so helpful to find current family photos w/o going through ALL of the 14 albums! Sure glad I have some others out there with my passion! Thanks everyone! -Vieja
