Doorknobs: Oil rubbed bronze on one side & brushed nickel other?
Comments (2)You sound just like me (2 years ago). My whole house is ORB. Master bathroom lights and plumbing fixtures are brushed nickel. DH didn't like the idea of ORB on the outside of the bathroom door and brushed nickel on the inside. So I have mixed metals in my bathroom. I asked here and in the decorating forum plus had seen tv shows with mixed metals. Most everyone thought it was fine to mix them. In my bathroom: door, closets and (dark stained) vanity have orb. Light fixtures and plumbing fixtures and tp ring, train rack are brushed nickel. I'm good with it :) Monica...See MoreDoorknobs: Oil rubbed bronze on one side & brushed nickel other?
Comments (6)I'm thinking of doing that in my MBR. The lighting in the BR and fixtures in the bath are ORB, so I want to change the door HW from builder brass to ORB, but keep the knob on the hallway side the brass to match other doors. What I plan on doing (since all the doors except the BR door to the hall and the linen closet door are pockets) is to buy a privacy set in ORB and only change the BR side (with the little push-button) and the bathroom side of the closet (doesn't bother me that knob will have tiny hole) and leave the inside of the closet brass. Another thing you can do (might be cheaper) is to just buy "dummy" knobs, though you can't get those in privacy, only closet type. Then just leave the working parts in place, pop off the knob and trim ring and replace them with the dummy trim....See MoreNewbie needs LOTS of kitchen help!
Comments (2)You could paint your cabinets white- it would be a lot of work, but save you money in the long run. If you get a farmhouse sink that is full counter depth (like one from Ikea), it would make granite more of a cheaper possibility (no sink cut out or undermount needed). With just straight cuts, you might be able to use remnant granite or go with a cheaper granite manufacture like The Murano Collection (they have their own stainless steel sink system as well that only requires straight cuts). I would remove the tile backsplash-you could replace with simple white subway tile, white beadboard, or tin to be left shiny or painted. Flooring could be laminate (Toklo brand is not too expensive 8mm-14mm with better moisture protection, Floor Mall sells it online), wood vinyl planks, sheet vinyl etc. Hardware, you could buy cheaper or use existing hardware and just paint it oil rubbed bronze. Light fixtures, you can check ebay, craigslist etc....See MoreHelp! brushed nickel or oil rubbed bronze hardware in my kitchen?
Comments (12)Is there a reason to buy the hardware before cabinets and counters are installed... then you can buy a sample of orb and nickel (... or, and chrome) hardware you like, and hold them up to your cabinets in your kitchen to select the finish you like best with your other choices? we spent a week or two at the very end of our remodel opening the drawers and doors from the edges (without handles/knobs/hardware), while we ordered samples, picked our final hardware from the samples, then waited for the whole kitchen hardware order to be delivered. It was not a big deal to use the kitchen with bare doors for that time......See MoreRelated Professionals
