I ordered this coverlet in sea salt and oat...neither looked right although wonderful quality. What about white? I could do cream shams?

Perhaps you just need to add some version of the wall color onto the cream/white bed with shams, decorative pillows and/or a throw. I can see where two blocks of color, the sharkskin of the walls and the the cream of the bedding might look disconnected without something to tie them together.

Fun2behere...I agree. I know it has the possibility of really coming together or looking terrible...like all decorating attempts, I suppose! Even a gray of some sort might look good.

So, it sounds like you feel that it makes no difference...white or ivory...just need some color on the bed to tie in the walls...

Not gray walls here, but single DD bought mirrored BR furniture which is painted a silvery gray~she *really* wanted ivory bedding. When she brought a very simple set home from BB&B, she sent me a picture and it looked horrible, very dull. She took it back and got a comforter from Target, white, big, and fluffy! I can't tell you what a big difference the white made to the look of the furniture as well as the rest of the room.

IMO, if a color is more blue based than yellow based, whites look best~I would consider gray to be in this catagory. The right shade of blue bedding would also be very pretty. ;o)

I think either white or ivory could work. White will look crisp and provide high contrast which seems contemporary. Ivory or natural will look softer and more muted, but could be very pretty with a mix of shams and pillows with colors and patterns. I guess it really depends on what look you are trying to achieve.

Fun2beHere...yes...that is the question...the look I'm trying to achieve! I would say clean, crisp, easy. White comes to mind with crisp being in the mix...just trying to decide which of those two coverlets will look best. I want something with some girth, if that makes sense. I live in a small town...not much shopping...so guessing online is the way to go;)

I found this on eBay...also looks lovely! I've never tried sferra but many of you here have mentioned this brand and liking it. below is the link...add a third option to the mix.

If you do go ivory, I think cranberry throw pillows would work well with the bedding and wall color. White would be crisp...but with Sharkskin appearing to be a kinda muddy gray, I think I might lean towards ivory. Depends on what look you want, though. With white, I think I'd want to pull green into the mix. No reason for these combos that I can articulate...just what appeals to me, I suppose.

I think I would like white or cream better than a color, but that's what I have, so I'm partial. This was my original inspiration picture, so thought I'd post it in case you haven't seen it before.

Wow, that sharkskin is a great color! As soon as you said you were going for cool and crisp, I instantly thought white bedding. Rather than mix in a bunch of charcoal or gray toss pillows, I would keep all the bedding white, except for a quilt folded across the end of the bed in a charcoal or gray color.

Of the two quilts you showed us, I think the Garnet Hill one has the better texture. In a room with monochromatic coloring, texture is really highlighted, so I think you'd be better off with that one. I have the Pottery Barn pickstitch quilt in my master bedroom, and it has really nice texture. I'm sure it comes in white. For the quilt folded at the bottom of the bed, maybe a linen type texture. Restoration Hardware has a nice line, called Pacific or something like that, that might work.

We recently moved into our newly built home...we've been here 8 months and I have yet to make any decisions! I didn't have a hard time with hubby designing it and making interior decisions such as tile, colors, hardware and such. But, putting stuff on walls, buying furniture? Oy! I've realized I'm terrible at it!

I forgot to mention, I did settle on an RH quilt since the garnet hill oat and sea salt weren't quite right; it came and the dimensions weren't as large as their site stated. Loved it otherwise.

So,that's what brought me back to the GH white coverlet. Also received a cuddledown swatch today of the diamond piqu� collection. Good grief! I just need to settle on something;)

Jessica, sharkskin seems to change colors depending on what time of day it is...it goes from green to gray...very dark...I love it!

I have seen the pottery barn pick stitch quilts and they look great! I like your suggestion, bestyears, of focusing on texture.

That is a great color, but I would not consider it one of the 'cool' greys at all. It has a very warm green undertone. Take a look at the colors that BM pairs with it on the color cards, and you will see they tend to be warm as well.

So I would stay away from a very bright white. Of course, that also depends on the furniture colors, the flooring, etc.

My other question is about what you want. Do you want a solid quilt, or are you open to a print comforter of some kind? I ask because Crate and Barrel has one interesting print that feels like it might work, and there are likely others out there. But if you only want a solid, then that is fine.

Well, that is an interesting point that Les brings up about the warm undertones, and Les is one of the gw'ers I always listen to! On the other hand, I can't stop seeing it as crisp, and that is afterall your vision...

Also, go on Etsy and look at Lovelyhome for some beautiful bedding made from linen (I think they are from Luxemborg, but prices are surprisingly reasonable). Then do a search on gray linen nursery -I forgot to save the link that there is a scrumptions baby crib set done in charcoal gray linen. I think that color, across the end of a white bed would be exquisite...

Les917...I looked on C and B's site...you may be speaking of the Loren bedding? Very nice! Not sure if it's the same one you are thinking of. You are right, it does have green undertones which causes one to think pairing a warm ivory would be best...I have white sheets on my bed at the moment and it seems ok? Re: my furniture...confession...our bed is on the box spring...no furniture yet!! I'm looking at this bed...(link below). Hubby and I need to take a look in person, however..planning on doing so next week.

Oh, no, not the Loren bedding. I was talking about a couple of the prints - that is why I asked if you were considering prints at all. I think the Sakura or the Iso Krassi could be interesting, depending on how the colors of the bedding appear in real life.

Les917...ok...I wondered. The Loren has a pattern although solid color. Makes sense now...I'll go check out your suggestion. I'm mostly set on a solid color, but might fall in love with a pattern. Or...purchase both!

Thank you! I usually don't go for footboards, but am still considering this. I also was looking at two beds from crate and barrel...not sure about quality there and it would be an online purchase bc we don't have a store nearby...risky.
