I know you posted this a while ago but I had the same problem and I just figured out how to fix it a few days ago and thought i'd share it.... We recently moved into a beautiful new home with laminate floors in the dining room, entry way, living room, kitchen and breakfast room and last but not least the bedroom. Long story short we have about 900 sq ft of laminate flooring. The floors looked fine when we looked at the house, during the inspection and when we moved in. When it came time to mop the first time I wasn't sure what to use on laminate floors so I thought I’d play it safe and use water only. When the floors dried it looked like there was a dull haze on them and after a few hours you where able to see every foot and paw print (we have 2 big dogs) I was confused as to what I did wrong and started to research online. Come to find out I am not the only person with this problem. There a so many forums and blogs with this subject I didn't know where to start. A lot of people suggest putting a water/vinegar/dish soap solution in a spray bottle and mop the floors with a slightly moist microfiber mop. That is a great way to MAINTAIN your laminate floors but in my case it did not fix the dull haze. By the way, I figured out that the dull haze is most likely residue left from products that the previous owners used. Damn you previous owners! I was desperate, annoyed and ready to rip out my laminate floors! I tried said water/vinegar/ dish soap solution, I tried bona for laminate floors, I even read somewhere that the magic eraser mop is supposed to take the residue off (it didn’t) I then tried bona laminate floor polish in the bedroom only and it looked great until it was time to mop again. The floor polish came right off and the nightmare started all over again. Then one day I was pinning around on Pinterest and saw a pin that lead to a cleaning blog and the girl was talking about cleaning soap scum in the shower with a 1:1 vinegar and dawn dish soap solution. She warmed up ½ cup of the vinegar mixed it with ½ cup of blue dawn dish soap (for some reason she insisted that it has to be the blue kind) sprayed it on her shower glass and scrubbed away and apparently it works wonders. So I thought to myself, since I basically have soap scum on my laminate floors and I don’t have anything better to do I will give it a try. I mixed up the miracle spray, sprayed it on a small area and scrubbed the hell out of it with one of those dish sponges that has a rough surface. My husband was freaking out and said I might scratch the floors but I didn’t care, I was in a scrubbing frenzy! I then wiped the solution off with water and vinegar, let it dry and walked over the cleaned area, jumped on it, made my dogs walk over it and lay on it and guess what? No dull haze and no foot prints! (And no scratches from the sponge) So far I have cleaned my dining room with this routine and I’m not gonna lie it’s the most annoying tedious thing I have ever done but it is worth it. I will try to finish my whole downstairs this week and then I will never ever use anything other than water and vinegar with a splash of dish soap to clean my floors. Some people even put a splash of alcohol in it to keep the floors from streaking.

Bill, thanks so much for mentioning that floor installation may also include removal of old flooring - forgot about that - too many things to think of! Well, I think the deal is probably dead. The bank, or someone representing them, came back with a counter-offer for all parties of $115,900. I'm not budging. My first offer was $101,990 and was told to put in my best and highest offer, which I did at $105,900. I wrote a letter and wanted to include an attachment for pictures but was told the bank will only look at faxed papers, so had to forego the visual. I wrote the problems that I'm aware of, trying to keep it short and to the point and told "whoever" that with all the problems there was at least $40K worth of work that I know of, at a price of $115K I didn't feel that the price was warranted and asked that if they reconsider my offer to let me know. Hopefully, the listing agent will submit it. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be - maybe they'll come back to me if no one bids any higher or makes a better offer than I did - otherwise, it goes in foreclosure. Thanks all!

Hi Donna, So I'm really sorry that you are having these kinds of problems. Based on your comments it was a mistake to keep the GC / PM. I understand you are in too deep at this point to make a change. I get that. The thing is that once roles start getting blurred, it can be really difficult to sort them out again - both on a practical level and on a legal level if it gets to that. If you start managing a job and taking on a role that's not yours, it makes it really difficult to hold the appropriate party responsible. In retrospect, the right answer is to have a discussion about roles and responsibilities as the problems happen and become apparent. (As in, "Mr GC, your job is to make sure this job is done properly, on time and on budget and to supervise your subs. Mr. GC you also take financial responsibility for mistakes on this job. I will go after your bond if mess this up, so I suggest that you stay on top of it." ) There should be very little direct communication between you and any subcontractor. They work for the contractor, they don't work for you. None of the issues with the kitchen sink is your problem, nor is the financial part of it your problem - It's all on the GC. BTW: Again keeping roles clear - you should not be purchasing sinks. You should have been talking to the GC / PM about what type of sink / faucets you want based on an agreed allowance $ for that item. It should have been determined ahead of time so issues with sink base cabinets / countertop / plumbing could be completely worked through by the GC /PM. He is responsible for ordering the item, making sure it's on site, and that everything works together, not you.

if you mean install / then un install / then install again I wouldnt do that. what do you mean by "be sure we like it? " take some time and look at specs of all the sinks in the type you wish to get ...choose specifics to meet your needs...... gauge/dimensions/ reveal/ or lip surround if top mount / # of bowls/ faucet particulars and placement etc....... plumber to install it when counter is done. In my opinion if this is a top mount sink.......getting the faucet selected..... [height / extension and type of sprayer/style and working of handle/ and how many holes and where you decide is best for faucet positioning ] is as difficult as the sink choices . go to some plumbing websites..pick what you want..your plumber can get at his pricing so you dont have to pay full retail. once you spend some time looking things over you should feel confident and not have to be so undecided like you describe. yes there is a lot of product out there....
