Transitioning paint on bullnose corners

Hi all! We're in the process of having our drywall finished (new home)and have decided to go with bullnose (rounded) corners instead of regular corner bead. One thing I hadn't really considered was how to transition paint color from room to room, so now I'm asking you all. Does anyone have pictures or can offer suggestions on how to transition paint colors when you have no clean corner to make the break?

I don't have them but have seen them done to the end of the bull nose then use painters tape to get a nice edge. I also run caulk done the tape so it doesn't bleed under.

I have new construction with rounded corners, too. Just looked at mine and the painter rounded the corner with one color and then started the next. He taped and painted.

We removed the soffits in two bathrooms, and we tiled the ceilings over the tubs in both, too. In one we used matching bullnose tile as our border, or trim, in the other, our tile guy cut down marble tile/pieces to use as border/trim. The rest of the bathrooms/ceilings are painted (except over the vanities). It looks great, but I don't have any pics showing the ceilings in either bathroom. If I get a chance, I'll try to take some pics for you.

Well, the link for the contemporary towel bars won't work for me for some reason. Can you give me the name of the collection your're considering so I can look it up? And just so I understand, you want the finish of the towel bars to match the faucets? But have the sconces in ORB? Everyone has their own opinion of course, but a like I said a lot of people mix and match and it always seems to work. IMHO, these kinds of choices are what makes the room personalized and comfortable for you and you should put what you like. I think in the end it will look great. These samples are a better match of what I was trying to convey. See how the shape of the holders sort of mimic the bottom of your lighting fixture? And with some of the towel bars I saw, the bar has a curved shape that also mimics the fixuture. I found these at Faucet.com, the link for the Gatco Avenue. Ah yes, one of the many reasons why I hate the rounded corners in our Spanish style house. I am redoing my master bedroom and considering wallpaper, which will require serious thinking as to its placement. I also have an angled fireplace with sloping upper wall, so another challenge if it is wallpapered. When we wallpapered our guest house (which I had built with nice square corners!) we needed to find a stopping point on a large wall going down to the basement. We used a 1/2 round trim piece painted to match our trim. Our handyman bought it at a local hardware store and they come in different widths and lengths. We needed about 10 ft run vertically and it provided a clean stopping point for the wallpaper. You could do something similar and place it about 2" away from the corner on the wall to be wallpapered. You could then paint it to match your trim, the wall color or a color to blend in with the wallpaper.

Thank you, very kind words. I am actually very proud of how well it came out, being my first ever vertical tiling effort. The only slight lippage there is, and its not really noticeable is the bottom row where I couldn't use tile leveling clips due to the ledger board. But I'm probably the only one who will ever know it's there. I really enjoyed the large format on the walls for a couple reasons. I was going for a marble slab look and that was the best way to go about it. Few grout lines was another reason. And lastly, just fewer tiles to hang. But putting large tiles up made me very grateful I spent the extra time and effort to make the walls plumb and square. I do love the schluter corner shelves. Sure beats the (in my opinion) dated look of those big bulky tile/carrera corner shelves. The top two are the same model Shelf-E squared off and the bottom is a Shelf-E triangle for my wife to put her foot to help her shave her leg. BTW....the best investment I made for tiling was a suction cup. Absolute game changer.

How funny! I'm wondering the same thing! My builder did the bullnose and I love the look of it but am stumped with paint. I also would love to see pictures!

I snapped a few pictures of this and the crown / base molding that goes around the bull-nose. Hope it helps!

mclarke: Instead of an outside corner being a sharp right angle, they are rounded. It's just a little detail that is different but adds interest. HTH.

sdionnemoore we have bullnose corners in our current house as well as our last house. I prefer to change colors at a corner in the room instead of on the bullnose. I always do my own painting though. Tape just didn't give me a clean line (and straight lines are not my thing). I haven't heard of dd50's tip of running caulk down the tape. What kind of caulk? Clear silicone that can be pealed off?

Here is an example of what was at our new house. I don't suggest putting these two colors together at the bullnose :)

I have seen homes with a line like this, but I have never seen a clean, straight line. I have been looking into this because I am trying to talk my husband into painting the kitchen but he doesn't want to end up with a jagged ugly line going into the hall and dining room. I found a tool that actually blends the colors on the corner at blendmate.com. Has anyone tried it? I have not seen them anywhere but they do sell them from the web.
