Wow! I can't believe Oct. is nearly over! This has been another busy week. Tristan had to work in Cincinnati this week and picked up the furniture for my sewing room at Ikea. We have the cabinet for my fabric assembled and I filled it yesterday. I have a bookcase and another cabinet to assemble. I can't wait to get everything organized and put in place. My DD promised that we will have everything assembled this week.
We are going to Dayton on Sunday to visit DS's family. We haven't seen them for a while. Jeff has been taking a class on Saturday since we moved and now is doing clinicals. I hope he finishes soon. We miss seeing the grandsons.
This week I pulled fabric for a new project. My friends back home are going to make a group quilt. I ordered the same pattern and plan to work along with them. Isn't the internet wonderful for keeping in touch?!!!!

Linda, I can't wait to see your new sewing room! I'm glad you are getting it all organized.

I haven't had any quilting mojo lately. I still need to load and quilt the Strip Twist for my BIL. The top, backing and batting are in a pile on the ironing board and one of the cats has been using it as her nest! LOL

Our PC decided to check out the other day, so a trip to the Geek Squad is on my list for tomorrow. Also the grocery store...we usually go on Friday night but we're having dinner with a friend tonight.

Sunday I'm playing clarinet for three church services, so by the time I get home I'll need a nap. :)

I am hoping to finish the 2015 Block Lotto samples this weekend and have 2 to go. Ssshhhh ... that's a surprise!

Today I need to go buy black vinyl to make Halloween costume for DS (he is 29 & married but called me LAST NIGHT .... "Mama, can you make a costume for tomorrow night?" )Thank goodness it is only an apron!

When I get that done, I need to clean up my sewing room since I have been pulling all kinds of fabrics and they aren't getting put away! Looks like a tornado hit.

Other than that, we will pass out Halloween candy tonight, have friends over for dinner tomorrow night, and church, then watch the Broncos play football on Sunday.

You must be so excited, Linda! I would be!!! Tonight is the in-state rival football game between CSU (my alma mater) and CU (my son's alma mater!) so we will be watching that. Tomorrow we are going to the Tour de Fat bike parade / music fest in town. 20,000 plus bicyclers in costume ... http://www.newbelgium.com/events/tour-de-fat/fort-collins.aspx We also have dinner out Sunday & Monday nights - woohoo. I took my Pfaff in for service a couple weeks ago and got it back and was able to finish 5 of the vests I am sewing for our Lions Club. Then the bottom thread started messing up and my straight stitches looked more like zig-zag. Yesterday, back to the repair shop. ... they have to replace the "hook" mechanism ... $350 MORE than I already paid for service. ($110). They are not going to charge me any service fee, just the part, but OUCH, it sure hurts! Hope they get it finished soon!!! I need to finish vests and aprons before any large quilting takes place. I did sew 6 potholders on my Featherweight last night, so that was good. Will be kind of a mixed bag for me so we will see how much gets done! Sue

I had a friend mention that he remembered biscuit/puff quilts from years ago and asked if I'd ever made one. I haven't, but I looked up the directions online and tried to make a few "biscuits". Too much work! I'd never make a whole quilt like that! However, my machine started giving me fits when I was working on that little experiment... The automatic thread trimmer began cutting the thread too short and the needle was coming unthreaded every time I started stitching. It's never done that before and it is super annoying. So I took it all apart and cleaned out the bobbin area... Had an awful time trying to take the needle plate off because I couldn't find a screw driver small enough.... then I realized a nickel would work perfectly, so I tried that and it did! I cleaned it out, and couldn't get the bobbin case back in right, it rattled and wouldn't seat properly and the machine would make about 3 stitches and then lock up.... I was up until 6 this morning cussing at that stupid machine and fiddling with it.... the cussing helped more than the fiddling :o) I finally got it back to where it would make stitches, but it makes new noises now. I changed the needle, thread, and bobbin, and the thread cutter seems to work better with a different thread, though I've never had a problem before with the thread I'd been using. I guess it's time for service and I just had it in the shop a few months ago for routine maintenance. Not quilting today, I need to spend so quality time away from my machine for a while... maybe absence will make the heart grow fonder and the silly thing will behave when I try it again! Have any of you ever had a problem with the thread trimmer cutting the thread too short and making the needle come unthreaded? I googled it, and I'm not the only one to experience this problem. Even people with Janomes and Berninas seem to have this problem sometimes, but apparently the dealer can adjust the thread trimmer. I just don't know why it would work perfectly for years and then start having a problem for no reason! I found a perfect Kenmore machine for my grandmother on C/L for 30 bucks, and I was going to go get it today, but the lady sold it out from under me :o( The search continues... Happy Birthday, Linda Dan and Calliope, I'm sorry you've been ill. I can't imagine anything worse than sinus infection (though back and tooth pain come to mind as close seconds).... when I get them, I rush the walk in clinic and get amoxicillian, they aren't anything to play around with!

Donna, I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well... Hopefully it doesn't linger.... Sue, the weather here is beautiful.... you are going to love it. I think the Food and Wine Festival is still going on at Epcot.... friends who work there harrass me to go with them sometimes, but I worked there when I was 19 and have had enough magic for a lifetime! They call me a 29 year old aunt bea since Id rather be home than go to the parks..... just give me my rocking chair, quilt, cat, and Readers Digest. :o). Are you staying in one of the Disney resorts? If you get a chance to stroll through Downtown Disney one evening, it's a neat place.... Lights everywhere and lots of unique shops and restaurants! You may know this already, but send yourself a text message of which section and row you park in, if you're driving.... the parking lots are massive and it's so easy to lose the car! I work tomorrow, but Ill be slumped back over my machine with my nose to the grindstone (or handwheel!) And the pedal to the metal on Sunday.... Oh, 2 weekends ago when I posted that I was going to see my grandmother, I forgot to update you.... she'd told me she got an old dirty sewing machine at a thrift store for 10 bucks and wanted me to look at it.... I got there and it was an Singer 401A.... my sewing machine friend says it's arguably one of the best Singers ever made because it is gear driven.... slant shake, and ugly as sin! It sewed great and I oiled it up for her... I didn't know what it was until I got back home to my computer and told her what she had.... she was really proud of herself. ;o). We had a few laughs because it zig zagged when I set it on straight stitch and went straight when I had it on zig zag.... we thought it might be possessed. :o) Have a great weekend everyone!

It's only been 24 hours since Grumpy arrived, and things are beginning to settle down. Bump is acting like the all-knowing big brother and gives Grumpy a light thump on the head when he's trying to usurp Bump in the hierarchy of the family. Stella is still hissing, but no longer threatening to seriously maim and destroy. She's been asking me how long we intend to have a cat, and when is this babysitting job going to end, and she doesn't care for my answers...lol! Grumpy will keep his name because its origin is rather cool, and gives him a bit of kinship with Bump. I've come to the conclusion that he is seriously stupid, or ferociously brave (leaning towards brave) because he's been ignoring the age and size of Stella and Bump. If he wants something, he simply bounces his way into it and ignores the warnings coming from his siblings, each of whom outweight him by a good 12 pounds. Grumpy is extremely active, sleeps seldom, and has an affinity for toes. He loves pizza and asiago cheese, having stolen a bit of each at different times this morning. And, I'm happy to report, he has convinced Bump that it's okay to eat wet food. Bump has an expensive habit of only eating the gravy off of wet food, leaving the meat to go bad. However, I've seen him eat more wet food in the last 24 hours than I have in the last six months. Now I won't feel so bad about spending 1.39 a can. I'm scrapping my plans to get any sewing done today due to a lack of sleep (only got about 3 hours last night because someone had already gotten some sleep and wanted to play) but I'm heading into my bedroom now to read some quilting magazines, and probably have my toes washed and nibbled...lol!

Probably won't get any quilting done this weekend. My retirement party is Saturday night - 100 guests at a local country club. I still have two weeks to work, but the end is getting closer.

My sis and her husband are coming for the party and the weekend, so a trip to Blue Bamboo is on the agenda for Saturday morning. She doesn't quilt, but she loves to make tube pillowcases with organic cotton prints from Blue Bamboo. She usually orders on-line but loves to go in person when she's in town.

No sewing for me. I finished the quilts for the Pinhoti 100 trail run. Will work the "carb load dinner" tonight, go to hubby's class reunion tomorrow, then work Aid Station #17 at mile 89.63 from 10p Sat till 6a Sunday. Then I will sleep.

Linda, so glad you will soon be settled.
Lois, I hope you enjoy your retirement party. It is nice your employer still does them, many have given those up.

DD was to come home tonight, but called and said she will wait until tomorrow due to weather...She doesn't want to get blown off the road. So I'm heading up to my sewing room to put the last two rows on her depression quilt. I pulled fabric for a Falling Charm throw so I can have another quilt to work on once I take the long arm class. I need a couple more colors so will go to the LQS tomorrow, but maybe I can start cutting what I have tonight. I cleaned house all day so I should be able to get a lot of quilting time in this weekend.

The furniture is all assembled! My DD worked on it all day. Her DH came over to carry the boxes upstairs and she did the bookcase first. I also bought a cabinet that has two doors with glass fronts and an open area in the center. My Big Board (ironing) fits on the top. It looks like it was made for the cabinet, a perfect fit.
Saturday you will find me organizing my sewing room. I will post pictures when I finish.

I probably won't get much sewing done this weekend. I have to do a lot of chores today getting ready for a trip to Atlanta. I leave tomorrow and will be there until Wednesday. I am going to take some handwork with me though. I thought about taking a machine, but don't know if I will.

Linda glad your sewing room is coming together well, can't wait to see your pics of it! Lois congrats on retiring!

Well earlier this week I finished the Butterfly Baby Quilt, so I have been elated about that. Next week S-I-L is going to make an embroidery label for it and then later this month my Mom is going to visit me and she will take the baby quilt home with her and deliver it to my cousins and their new baby. Thursday night at 6pm my son comes to me and says he wanted to be a fox for Halloween. So Friday my hubby and I put together his costume which I had to make from scratch, but it turned out great. Then he spent last night at his friend's house trick or treating in their neighborhood and his parents threw a Halloween party, then his friend came home with my son and they had a sleepover here ..... they are elementary school age kids ...... so my son had a wonderful Halloween.

This week after I finished the baby quilt, I started crocheting ribbon bookmarks that will go in Christmas cards that my son will give his teachers and staff at school for Christmas presents, the teachers always love them. So I will probably be making more of them this weekend. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend...... Linda I can't wait to see pics of your completed sewing room.

Last weekend I was able to replace the leaders on my quilt frame. I'm hoping that this will improve my quilting.

Throughout the week, I loaded a baby quilt.. seemed to take forever to get it loaded! Today I was able to get it quilted! YAY! Things worked out much better this time!

Might be that I could get the binding prepared tomorrow... Plus, I have 4 other quilt bindings ready to be sewn to quilts! Guess I should get busy.
