HELP!! I now hate the exterior of our new house!! What to do??
Comments (3)We used to have natural cedar siding on our old house. I believe we used a product called CWF-UV (Clear Wood Finish-Ultra Violet protection ) in Cedar. I've attached pictures of our old house. Cedar has an orange cast to it, but the CWF brought out the dark reds too. Here's a link to the CWF http://www.acetogo.com/product/19794/finish+wd+cwf+cedar+gal.html Here is a link that might be useful: CWF on Cedar...See MoreAdvice please--I hate my new paint!
Comments (37)With that much invested, just wait. Try some of these strategies like lighting, adding accent colors and stuff to the room. Live with it a while. If it doesn't grow on you, then decide. Money is too tight for me to hire a repaint. I've had three experiences to relate. One day while I was at work, my dad painted a room for me in my new home with a color I had carefully chosen beforehand. Got home, saw pepto bismol but no way was I ever going to be able to repaint right away due to dad's pride and happiness. I actually joined this board way back then posting for advice on how to tone it down. You can tone down a color you hate by matching it with similar colors close in tone. That's what I did with my room. I never loved it, but it became tolerable, maybe even pleasant. Second instance, my landlady went paint shopping with me and helped me paint my back bedroom. She bought what I thought was a baby poo color for her own bedroom. Even after painting it, I wasn't in love with it, but once she got all the furniture and the matching bedspread, and art in there, I must say it looked FABULOUS. Like a total different reaction from me from when I saw the paint chip and sample on the wall. It related so well to everything else in the room it was a fabulous choice. As for myself and my back bedroom, I LOVE my color on the walls, but my carpet makes it skew blue and I wanted more grey. I'm also not in love with it with my furniture. I like it though, I can live without perfection. It is so much better than the wall color was before, and it is adequate for what I want it to do. In fact, I wanted the color to do so much that the perfect color may not even be out there. My expectations were a tad high. I say, make do and then if after a while it just makes you unhappy all the time, then if you have the time and money, repaint. I lived with carpet and wall color and wallpaper in my master bedroom for 12 years that I hated. We called the master bedroom "the aquarium" because the teal carpet and trim was so cloying. But we had so many other projects to do at the house that room never got its makeover. Part of the reason was the previous owners painted all the trim a teal color and it had a LOT of trim, including a bay window and seat and folding closet doors, all teal. I worked with it as best I could. I had a "Miami Vice" bedroom, lol!...See MoreArghhhh! Anyone else hate their new granite?! Designer help please!
Comments (6)Looks lovely, I agree with others new installation shock and absence of stuff could be major influence on how you feel. I always give my self a week to adjust before making a final decision to return, redo or replace. Ask yourself if this would keep you from buying this house? I have over the course of eight previous home paid to redo elements I knew I hated. But only after giving it some time and consideration as to why it had to change and the dollar cost vs emotional cost. Had a beautiful, but not for me master bath redone and never regretted it....See MoreI can't pick an Exterior paint color!! Help? Please!
Comments (27)this is a crappy pic, but if it helps, I have a koi pond w/the white stucco. my overhang is painted in Wrought Iron, along w/the trim decking is a light gray you could do the paint deck in a contrasting color if you go w/the white stucco. maybe paint the posts to the cabana a contrast? bring in some diff colors w/pots, chairs, maybe a teak beach? you see the orchid wall? we did that ourselves with redwoo, coated it w a marine varnish. you could easily make something like that and attatch it to a portion of the stucco wall to break up all of the white after it was done. (and before we painted the house) you could use any outdoor wood, and make it any size attach some plants to it or string some solar lights on them. potted plants, then make a simple bench and put it under the wall hanging slats. This make sense?...See Morebestyears
