I put in multiple size Travertine tiles in my laundry room. I went with the installer's eye for the design. I told him the look I wanted and figured he would know best how to lay it out. This is a terrible picture of it (overhead lighting in this room is garish), but this is my favorite floor in the house. I went with a local floor installer who considered his work an art. He also put in the wood floors and custom made the nose piece for the stairs and selected that awesome piece for the transition.

Thanks for pics and comments so far....here are some photos....tile styles and the powder room (current state). I agree re grout not fun to clean. That is one of the reasons I think I should choose something else...any ideas would be appreciated. So far we have looked at hexagon (the one pictured is Calacatta but we would go with oriental white), herringbone (oriental white is pictured) and the last tile pic with squares we kind of liked. Thoughts?

The home depot associate (tile specialist) suggested 1/16 spacers but use a flexible mortar to allow expansion/contraction. (I may not have said that correctly.) I will get advice on specific thinset and grout from my contact at the tile shop (who was a tile contractor). Thanks everyone!

Larger is not out of proportion with the 1" tile. It SHOULD look larger. I would use a 4 or 5 x 10 myself...
