The way the room is now, I think the treatments on the right fit the decor better. But, I would definitely paint before you decide on the windows...the room will have an entirely different feel once it is painted!

On my monitor, the picture is too small to tell the difference. However, I will repeat what sammie said: Wait until you paint. White is not always white.

If you do not have to open or close, what about fake romans in a nice print fabric. I think after the panelling is painted you will need a splash of color and print.

I think the look on the left would look charming with painted paneling - a cottage-y feel. I like the contrasting ribbon. There is nothing wrong with the panels on the right, but they don't catch my eye the way the other treatment does.

I also recommend you paint first. Are you painting the paneling pure white? I recommend a color or a variation on the white. Stark white has no warmth. Are you going for a monochramatic scheme? If so be careful your beiges and whites have the same undertones and you don't end up with yellow undertones in the curains and pink undertones on the wall.

If you're painting the walls white I would think the WT with the contrasting ribbon would look nicer and add some dimension.

I really like the ones on the right much better. I didn't even notice the ones on left. I hate paneling - I would paint also. I think it will look great!

Once the room is painted it will make a world of difference. There are a zillion shades of white. Your drapes on the right (which I think will certainly look the best) have a lot of blue in them as do your carpets.

Pick a good shade of white to go with them. Actually any white color will go well in that room if it blends with the sofa's.

Question? Are you going to paint the window panes as well? My guess, you will probably not.

With painted white walls and beige sofa's and white drapes it is going to be very light in there. Which is good, no?

I have painted dark paneling over the years and it looked wonderful.

Paint is and has always been the thing that can change a room more than anything.

You're right... I was hoping to choose the window treatments before painting (because I don't want to spend my summer weekends painting) - but you're right, it's better to wait and get them right. Thanks for all the advice, I'm going to continue to live with the bare windows until the weather changes and I get the paneling painted.

I was not laughing at your drapes, I would never do that. I hope that I did not give that impression. Because nothing could be futher from the truth. I happen to love silk and I am mad about white. I was just meaning that it is easier to change the drapes than the paint job. As far as work goes, not $$$$ of course.

Always go with your gut. You sound like you know what you are talking about.
