I'd suggest that you hang it lower - cut the space between the bottom edge and the couch by half.

But the larger question is, how much do you love it?
If the answer is, "Meh ..." then replace or move it.

If you do love it, there's no reason I can think of that you couldn't add a frame - but I would use a very plain dark antique gold frame - nothing fancy or shiny. You have enough wooden squares and rectangles in the room already.

I like your comfy-calm look, but the picture seems large enough to me, maybe even too large in that the sofa, picture, and coffee table all have the same proportions.

Maybe it needs a little unpredictability. Sometime round, Png4? Big and round to break up the right-angle/rectangular thing going on?

This change could be used to break out of the time box a bit, if you wished. Add more dimension beyond the usual three by expanding in time with a nice-quality something (round mirror?) adding in the depth of another time.

If round doesn't appeal, how about three rather small square pictures (end table) in a horizontal line (couch)? I could see vertical working there, too.

It looks good (although too high). A very nice space overall, but I personally think it matches your pillows too much. Agree with Rosie, to try something more unpredictable. If you were to love the painting, I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think it needs to be framed. I could imagine the canvas and its stretcher matted onto a larger, darker material but without a frame around it. I don't know what that technique is called.

On a black panel would look great! (Don't know what that's called either, lol). A bit of separation.

bronwynsmom - I never thought of framing this piece since its a canvas stretched over wood type of print but I could see how that would work as well.

rosie - I like the idea of something round or a 3 picture grouping to break it up a little. I have a large mirror over the dining room buffet which is further down on that same wall so I'm thinking that would be too many mirrors, but maybe I could look for some other type of round artwork or sculpture piece that would work.

It is a little matchy-matchy to the pillows now that snookums mentioned it. Lol But I love the colors!

I don't think it's too modern or abstract at all. I love blue, so I'd get some blue pillows or lamp.

I too would frame it and then get some pillows with the blue in the picture, your living room looks nice and cozy.

Blue pillows sound good. Can you move the circle pillows away a bit, to chairs or other sofa?

I actually have some blue/teal pillows that match the picture exactly. I took them away because I thought it was too many colors. I can replace the circle pillows with those and see how it looks.

Perhaps remove the two small yellow items -- and add a large orange glass bowl to the coffee table .... and some nice big décor books and magazines stacked on the shelf under it! :)

Maybe add a small dark wood round table on the right-hand side of the sofa -- in front of the tree?

I am a big fan of the artwork. It is very lively and adds great color to the wall! I would lower as you are already doing and it would look great with a frame or left as it is.

I am attaching a piece of artwork I was unsure about but now I love it! It too is unframed and I was going to frame it but it seems to work as is.

I like the picture...right where it is (as long as there is even space to the ceiling from the top of the art) and no frame.

I would add a light colored throw tossed on the top of the sofa to soften the color there, and draw the eye to the art.

Ok, taking in all the advice that I can do right now; I've lowered the picture (might need to lower it a bit more) and replaced the circle pillows with the blue ones that match the picture. I also added the orange bowl on the side table in place of the yellow birdhouse. Better? I think it looks great. Thanks again!

I like the art and would keep it there if I were you. If you put a large flat type bowl in the middle of the table in the shade of blue close to the painting color it would pull it all together. I think the white flowers are fighting for dominance lol. If the budget allows a soft green area rug under the table and the front of the sofa would make it sing.

I would also consider moving that nice plant somewhere closer to a window, and adding another end table and lamp to the corner. Similar sizes and heights, but not matching.

The corner is dark, and when you put an artificial plant away from any source of light, it is obvious that it isn't real, and looks rather forlorn. And you really do need light in that corner.

So much better and love the art. How many inches above your sofa is the bottom of the painting? Standard accepted hanging height is 6" to 12" inches above a piece of furniture. The art then becomes visually connected to the furniture and is not just floating on the wall. I would move it down a few inches still. (The height of the wall is immaterial to where you hang art. After all the bottom of a painting hung on a 9' or 10 ' wall doesn't get hung 5' up on the wall. It relates to the furniture, not the ceiling.)

I'm leaning towards the pillows with the circles more after looking at the two pictures, only because it feels lighter and brighter. I may keep the blue ones for fall/winter and the circles ones for the warmer months. Definitely good to have options!

brownwynsmom - I have a matching end table on the other side of the room in between to chairs so I was unsure if another table would be overkill but that corner is lacking. I may end up moving the plant altogether and bringing in another table to see how it looks. Thanks.

Maybe one circle pillow with one blue, two orange? It might be nice to not have them all paired up. Or one circle with two blue and one orange...or maybe just 3 pillows!

I think two white matted framed prints would look better. I would still work on the pillows because I do like the coolness that has been added (and balanced) but I don't like these particular pillows.

I agree about the lighting in the corner.
