I just planned my 30th high school reunion and found that a ton of land line phone numbers and the street addresses found alongside of them were no longer valid. Many people are going cellular only... I did pay one site for a few people I could not find and the money was not worth it. I got the same info that I had gotten from a free site. Also, I used multiple people search sites, where one would find nothing, another would give me an address or phone number. I spent a ton of time trying to find people because the professional planners used for the last two reunions did not and many were not invited. I found the most people on Facebook! over 200, though not all of them responded to my contact attempts.

cool thread. I've been wondering how to reduce my cellphone bill (from Verizon). Tracfone's annual plan sounds great. Note that most markets now allow you to retain your phone number when you change carriers. Tracfone leases time on Cingular and Verizon networks, so quality of phone service will be that of Cingular or Verizon dependant upon which is being used at the time and in your area. If I'm not mistaken, Cingular is TDMA at 1900 MHz and Verizon is CDMA at 800MHz. So for your area, check on the phone (datasheet or FCC sticker) to see which network is being used. Some phones may be dual mode. Verizon probably has the overall best coverage in the US. Cingular merged with AT&T (no?) and their networks are merging (or merged already). Hmmm, also, to be fair, I think that you should calculate an 'effective' cost per minute depending upon the (traditional or pre-paid) plan you're using. Use the monthly bill total including all the fees, divided by the actual minutes used (traditional).

Switchboard.com has a reverse look-up feature. I'll include the link to the page. You can also put the complete number into a Google search and come up with info. It's not just debt collectors that use toll free numbers. It could be any business with which you have a "relationship." If you've ordered anything online or over the phone from a company or business within a specified period of time, you are considered to have a relationship with them, so that exempts them from the Do Not Call list restrictions. Also, banks usually will have a toll free number on the Caller ID display if they're calling on a fraud protection type of thing (they've noticed unusual activity on a credit or debit card and they want to know if you made the charges or not). If you don't respond within a very short period of time, they'll cancel your card and the only way you'll know is when you go to use it and it gets denied.
