where drywall meets fireplace Q help! need quick answer!

remodelling family room.

we are taking down cedar board and batten siding and replacing it with drywall. we have a corner that is bricked on both walls, with a woodstove. there is no drywall behind the brick.

although the brick matches nicely from the front and side, the surface of the brick that is against the wall is built against furring strips and is irregular, sort of crenellated, and it causes a gap of varying width where the drywall should butt smoothly up against the brick.

i don't know if you can understand the situation from my description, but anyway - the contractor wants to just put trim up to cover the gap.

the house is a 1970s kind of modern house and i don't think trimming around the brick in wood would suit the house.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

I'll try to figure out how to post a photo!

Thanks for your help!
