Actually, yes. Our GC had to install our undermount prep sink as a drop-in in our oiled wood island. He wouldn't undermount it because he was certain the cut edges of the wood would rot. It looks fine - not great, but fine.

On YOUR SINK that you are asking about -
the outside rim is designed to go under the countertop and not EVER be seen
by man nor beast....... that same rim will not have any "turn down" on the
outside edge of the rim or any dressed finish....it may even by sharp........

I suppose if you HAD TO.... it could work... but why?

I'd look for a sink that was DESIGNED to be used as a drop in style for your project...

I ordered a 30" sink base without checking to see if I could get a sink to fit it. I made a counter-top out of ceramic 6" X 6" tiles and then tried to find a sink to fit the sink base. The first sink was a fiberglass model that my wife did not like. I then found a stainless steel under-mount model on line at Lowe's. Not wanting to tear out the tiles I had already put in I ground the edges and dropped the sink in place. I fit perfectly and the best part is that my wife is happy.

I am looking for a drop in that is 33" x 19" (for a mobile home). A lot of undermount sinks are this size, so I wonder if I can use as a drop in instead? REALLY hard to find a single basin drop-in sink in the mobile home size!

It's hard to say without seeing the actual model sink. It's technically possible, most likely. However, since it's designed to be mounted under the counter, it probably won't have a finished flange, and you'll be looking at screws poking out around the edge every time you do dishes. There may be issues with creating a proper seal to avoid leaks. Avoid if at all possible.

I have a $300 double under mount sink installed under a new Granite counter top. The Granite keeps getting chips around the edge because of large metal pots that we hand wash. Can this sink be installed as a "drop in"

Yes, but I'd suggest simply re-profiling your sink edge to more round.

The counter tops we used are particle board from ikea. The link is below. We cut a hole in it, used a lot of clear caulk on the inner -part of the cut-out area to seal it, and it worked great. The lip around the sink sits nicely on the counter and we used white caulk to seal the edges.

We also installed a garbage disposal and so far the vibrations are not impacting the sturdiness of the sink.

The sink is very deep which is great. Be careful, steel wool stains it.

Over all a beautiful white deep sink that works as an over-mount on a budget.

Thanks for asking that question! I bought an undermoumt sink for my kitchen. I am in the process of installing the butcherblock countertops myself. When I made the cut for the sink hole, the saw blade skipped & messed up my cut. I going to drop it in, the flange is super low profile. It looks great!

@Polish & Bone how did you secure the sink into the countertop? I have a Kraus undermount steel sink (https://www.kraususa.com/kraus-khu24l-24-undermount-18-gauge-stainless-steel-single-bowl-laundryutility-sink.html) for my kitchen that I'm reusing in my garage (the countertop is IKEA laminate so can't undermount). So I would like to drop it in, but i'm not sure how to secure it to the countertop. Would a standard drop-in installation clip just work?

Ash, I would just use a good urethane caulk. 3M 5200 is one of the best, but expensive and limited availability... Make sure you put enough to fill the gap between the sink lip and the countertop. Then make sure to put weight into the sink overnight.

I am wondering about using an undermount as a drop in too. I have a new to me vintage home that I'm trying to de-renovate the previous owner's HGTV inspired grey on grey on grey experiment, and try to make it look 1960's cool again, I get that's not everyone's aesthetic, but I digress

Anyway I want a yellow sink to match the Harvest Gold appliances I found in the garage (still work perfectly) but the only currently manufactured yellowish sink I can find is an undermount.

I see that several people have had success with using an undermount sink in this way, but I was curious if a Hudee ring would be an option on one of these. For anyone unfamiliar, a hudee ring or a sink frame is the old fashioned aluminum trim piece you see on vintage sinks in older homes. The same company that pioneered them still make them today, you can find them at Home Improvement stores like Menards LINK

I'm thinking if the ring would work with an undermount, I'd kill two birds with one stone: the ring would not only cover the raw edge without having to finish it in some way, but also Hudee rings are designed to seal the sink to the countertop with clamps and avoid moisture going in under the edge and look less unsightly than a silicone bead.. plus, in my case, it would add to the vintage look.

Has anyone tried this? I'm wondering if the undermount has too small of a profile (thickness of edge) for it to work.

Those rings are really old school to the point of obsolesence. I wouldn't recommend. I've top mounted some undermount sinks.
