McRoskey Mattress anyone?
Comments (3)Hi there. We are getting a hand made mattress too- from a local firm here in NY- CH Beckley- and will have the exact same problem. Our mattress will also be 8", but will have a topper. Like McRoskey they make mattresses the old way- with horsehair, etc. I would have bought a McRoskey if there was a way I could have tried them out here on the east coast- but no outlets here. They have a very good reputation. In regard to the sheets- the Ralph Lauren 200 thread sheets are good for 14 inches or lower. I still prefer the Lauren 380 thread count sheets. So... if a bit too big- so be it. They will tuck in....See MoreDo you think *boxspring* mattress are old technology
Comments (8)I would do a lot of homework as mattresses have changed the past few years. Fell in love with a Simmons Beautyrest myself a few years ago. Didn't even get the pillow top just the plush top. Bought the top of the line. Less than a year later, there was a big crater where I slept(130 lbs). Because of new flammability standards it is very hard to find anything other than a "no-flip" mattress. They say this is for your convenience but in truth it is just cheaper to put the higher grade safety material on just one side. Without being able to flip my Beautyrest it isn't possible to get even wear. Same with Serta, Sealy and most others. I was able to order a Doctor's Choice from Denver Mattress last year that they still had in the warehouse that was flippable(is that a word?:-)). They no longer make them either. When we were shopping for the first one we thought a saleman was just handing us a line when he told us to stay away from no-flip. Now we are wiser. And Skypath is correct. I would never buy a pillowtop, plush is as soft as you should go. Even with a mattress that flips....See Morenightstands too low
Comments (19)aiden m- the first night I wondered how I was going to get in the bed. It was too high to crawl up, so I got the little footrest I used at work and navigated it that way. The next day I called around and found a 15" 2-step bed stool and that is how I now get in an out. I've seriously entertained the thought of going to the baby store to get side rails so I don't fall out ;0). So far, once I'm in I don't do much movement and when that becomes a problem I'll have to deal with it. As my 80 year old mother says,"The Golden Years, My A**." I sorta tend to agree with her although she gets along better and has a better memory than I do. Thanks for the suggestions and advice!...See MoreWhat's your expectation of how long a mattress should last?
Comments (28)We have a 20-year old Spring-Air twin mattress that my daughter still sleeps on. It's great. We have another 15-year old Spring-Air king-size that's still good as new. I bought a Sealy firm-memory foam, and it's still good as new, after 9 years. My mother-in-law also loved her very old Spring-Air mattress. I don't have much luck with Serta. I bought that brand new one time, and returned it to the store after 1-night of sleep ... it was really bumpy. My friend has Serta for a few years and she's NOT happy. I tried a bunch of Serta this weekend at Sam's Club .. NOT impressed. We bought a memory-foam topper at Sam's club for an old mattress in the basement, but we HATE it, too mushy, like sinking in mud. I'm shopping for a FIRM latex or foam topper .... spent hours looking at Amazon reviews but could not find any safe bets. Thanks for any recommendations....See Morelaney250
