Painting our bathroom vanity--can't decide black or white

We have a tiny bathroom--which is why I couldn't take pictures--in our house that is in need of a complete overhaul. The house was built in the 70's and this bathroom reflects that. We are trying to update on a small budget and we're starting with the vanity. We bought a new countertop called Sand which is a light tanish color with small flecks of white, black/grays, and a sort of rust color. The flooring will be a light color as well--we have a dog that sheds a lot. We are trying to decide whether to go with a white or black vanity. Here are questions we are throwing back and forth. Maybe some of you can help.

1. We really like the look of black with the countertop but are wondering how practical it would be. For example, would it show dirt, fingerprints (we have a small child), etc. more than white?

2. Is one color easier to keep clean and looking nice than the other?

3. Would black make our already tiny bathroom look even smaller?

4. What sheen of paint should we use?
