garage door repair

Hello. am new to this forum and was wondering if I could get some advice on my garage door. have an older door with what looks like a masonite covering over a wood frame. the bottom 2 inches or so has deteriorated from exposure to water. tried peeling back the outer covering and noticed that the interior of each panel has what I would call a honeycomb pattern made out of cardboard. the outer covering is glued to this and is very strong. would like to keep this door as the torsion spring was replaced about a year ago and the frame is in excellent shape.
Question is how would I go about replacing the outer panel keeping in mind how it is constructed. any help would be appreciated

Buy a new lower section and install it.

I didn't mention I would like to redo the entire outer surface of the door as the other panels are rather weather beaten also. Don't want to buy new panels but rather repair.

If the small opening at the bottom is the same all the way across the door it may just be the 'down limit control.' This is on the side of the motor unit and takes a small screwdriver. Turn the control in the direction of the arrow printed on the cover. If you go too far the door will bump the floor and reverse to the open position. It may take a little tweaking to get it right. Also remember if you run the motor too much the thermal protector will turn it off and you will have to wait about 15 minutes for it to reset.

My Sears garage door opener was only coming up about 2/3 of the way. So I adjusted the opening (lift) and decreased the closing settings. Now when it open the carriage stops at the right opening position, then when you try to close it it continues to open until it slams into the opening device and jams up. Do I need to adjust the door closing and opening down (less of each), move the door to the closed position and attach the trolly. Then open and let it reset, and adjust from there??? HELP PLEASE> Should I get a repair man in for $125-$200 or is this a simple fix???

Go to a real lumberyard not HD or Lowes and ask for 1/8" Tempered Masonite or Hardboard. You may need to purchase a 4'x8' sheet but with cutting it for you will still be under $20.

You are going to have to replace the bottom lower section. and the door gasket.

Compare that to a price of a new door.

If you buy a new lower section. Seal it well with paint - all six sides - before you install it.

All you can do is sand the rest of the door, prime, and paint.
