What would you do with all the junk jewelry in the world?
Comments (52)On our Christmas posts someone had great jeweled cone trees. 1 pastel other 1 Victorian looking. Can't remember what it was under but they were all pinned on so could be reused. With damaged jewelry you could take a "jewel" off of 1 item & put on another to fill in hole & then spray the whole thing, no one would know! Yes, I agree that all the jewelry needs sorting, clear plastic shoe boxes or even regular shoeobxes marked on end or ziploc bags & put it all in large box, mark top of bag with items inside- so they are "filed" in the box. Whole earrings with stones or rhinestones all in a box that way you see if you have enough of something to work out your design. It's been about a year so hope you have made something up. If not organize it so it isn't so out of control. I've gotten small stashes & even that is a mess if not sorted out. Hope yoou post pics soon. Jan...See MoreDid you plan a place for pets?
Comments (15)In our laundry room, we have a sink with a 18" panel to hide the plumbing but under that, the cabinet is open. The dog bed sits thus! It's just a cabinet without a door front. Right next to that is the cabinet for the food, dog brush, medicines, treats, etc. I once saw the CUTEST place for a litter box in a magazine: it was a lower set of cabinets with double door fronts that had a cat face carved out of the doors (half of the face on each of the doors)--the cat "entrance" to the litter box within the cabinet was the cutout. It was big enough for the cats to get in and out of. The "handles" to the cabinet doors were the cut out too....See MoreJunk Drawers, go away!
Comments (11)I think the problem with dealing with junk drawers is the memorabilia, stuff you really don't want to throw away but has no real use any longer. The make it hard to make decisions on throwing out. Perhaps you could approach the problem with the attitude that you are going to do just a little compression and sorting, not a main cleanout. If it's a drawer, can't be too big so find a card board box (or two) and as quick as you can without giving yourself time to change your mind, hold your breath (kind of like jumping into cold water LOL) and dump that sucker totally out. Release your breath. Get a few gallon ziplock bags handy. I find them useful as sort of file folders for the drawer. eyeball the drawer and try to come up with some higher level categories. Turns out our junk drawer had a gazillion pens and pencils (one bag), a million rubber bands of various sizes (another bag), hundreds of small batteries (a little plastic tray I found) and a very large stack of owner's manuals/product info (perfect for a ziplock). Also, a curious assortment of memorabilia including old keys which I didn't want to throw out(a little box). Assign a zip lock bag to each category (if size works) or use box Now. just wipe off each item and put it in the appropriate ziplock bag or box (whatever). If it's a pencil or pen, make sure it writes before keeping it, else toss. If its an owners manual, make sure you still use the product. Else toss. Put the bags and/or little boxes back in the drawer. At least it will be sorted. You probably still need to do more declutering but at least now you know what decisions to think about regarding what to toss (I'm thinking there is no way we need that many batteries when we can buy them so cheap. I will probably toss many of them but haven't yet.) Don't put the bag of memorabilia back in the drawer. Put it somewhere else with other memorabilia, maybe where you store your photos, or in the attic or somewhere that it doesn't take up such precious real-estate. --Alice...See MoreDo you have a junk drawer?!.....
Comments (16)I have what is called over here a chiffonier but I find that Webster calls it an escritoire. It's a tall chest of drawers with three large drawers below and a number of small drawers at the top and a writing shelf between that can be put up and locked to cover the smaller drawers. Very convenient with small grandchildren around. The contents are very much like yoyobon's, leftovers from several generations of children. The oldest stuff is from my husband's childhood. I meant to sort the junk and organise it later this year but perhaps it's a pity to ruin the fascination of the incredible mix of things and trinkets for the children. Games, a wooden Solitaire board with glass marbles, souvenir packs of cards (California redwood trees and Shakespeare's flowers), chess board and pieces in stone from Kenya, a gift from my daughter's first boyfriend, photos and postcards, including my husband's collection of the postcards his widowed mother sent him every week when she was away at university for two years, leaving him with her parents. My mother's mother-of-pearl cigarette case (an almost obscene object now when nobody smokes), a large number of things the children made in kindergarten, coins from every country we've visited, odd but beautiful buttons, old toys and souvenirs, a cloth bag with very small keys, part of my book mark collection and hundreds of other things....See Morepurrus
