Flat TV - Mount or not mount - PIX
Comments (23)We purchased a flat screen a couple of weeks ago and had never considered wall mounting it. My DH really wanted it on the wall so I said to go ahead and do it. I didn't have strong enough feelings about it to say no. You have to pick your battles. Well....I must say I like it so much more wall mounted. It just looks alot cleaner. The cables are still showing but he's going to run them thru the wall so we won't see them....See MoreConcealing a TV - not wall mounted
Comments (22)We have a lift cabinet for our family room tv. I love it, as I dislike seeing a tv when it's not on. My DH is now talking about replacing it with something more shallow. The back is open on ours and we get a lot of dust in through the back. Ours does hold our DVD's on the upper shelves, but only the lower shelf is deep enough to hold the components. Because of that, we need the tower next to it to hold the rest of them. Another negative with lift cabs is that you can't put anything on the top surface of it, as it lifts up with the tv. But, I do love the look of the nice uncluttered cabinet with my wonderful Native American art framed above it instead of a big, black tv. < Edited to add: Just saw the video on a tv lift cab that Lars posted. I like that there is room on top to put a lamp, piece of art, etc. There doesn't look to be any DVD storage in it, but there is room for components. Because they're off to the side, with side access, can you still use your remote(s) to easily operate everything from your seats? With the component door closed? >...See MoreNeed help filling empty wall space around TV etc!
Comments (23)Well, I was going to suggest the ubiquitous fiddle leaf fern, but looks like you have a cat, and they are toxic to cats. You might Google plants that are non-toxic to cats and see if anything grabs your interest. I think some palms may be ok with cats (and they can grow fairly large), or you might look for a contemporary plant stand and just sit a smaller plant on it -- maybe a giant tropical bromeliad or something along those lines. That said, if your cat is prone to pester plants, it's probably not a good idea to include one in your décor. (Definitely don't put a fake plant in this pretty space.)...See MoreIs it necessary to have a large tv stand for a large tv?
Comments (10)You may not "need" a cabinet that was made to be sold as a tv stand. A floating shelf or a box shelf or a sofa table or a credenza or a bookcase or dresser or the orphaned top of a hutch from a china cabinet or, if you want quirky, even a fireplace surround and mantel (even without the fireplace) could work just as well for the purpose of having as a place to set tv/media related items beneath the tv; however, as you make your decision, do consider what wires you want/need to hide. If you appreciate symmetry, you will want whatever you do finally choose to be at least as wide as the tv. so if you're considering either 67" or 70" tv, if you choose an item that is at least 70" wide, you will not be disappointed with the width. If you prefer to hang your tv on the wall above a shelf, but you don't want the wires to show, you could use hollow porch post pieces to cover the cable and electrical wire creating a pair of faux "legs" for your shelf....See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
