Did you know about the press tabs?

The ones on the boxes of aluminum foil and clear plastic wrap? I just got an e-mail about them and after all the many, many years of using those products I never knew about them. I had to go look at mine to see if they were there and sure enough they are; one on each end. The plastic wrap I have is Glad Wrap, but I'll bet Saran Wrap has them too.

It can be a pain when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the

roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. Well, now that I have been informed about those tabs I no longer have to worry about that little aggravation.

I just pressed mine in and gave it a tug and it works! But, I now have a short tail of foil hanging out of my box because I can't roll it back in...LOL...LOL!!!

I tried the chalk line a while back--the ants apparently hadn't been told it was a 'do not cross' sign. Alcohol is the best way I've found to clean windows. Putting sugar in corn while cooking will add a little sweetness, but it makes the corn tougher. I just buy supersweet corn at the farm stands--it doesn't need sugar. for cleaning vases with narrow necks, I break up a denture cleaning tablet or 2, drop in and add warm (not hot) water. Interestingly, when I took a pate de verre class (molding glass pieces from frit), the instructor--who was a nationally known glass artist also used the denture cleaner method for cleaning the plaster bits of the molds off the molded pieces. Elmer's glue also works for splinters. Spread it on over the area, let dry and peel off the glue--the spinter usually comes with it. Murphy's oil soap also works well on crayon marks if they're on something like wood. Baking soda is my #1 go-to cleaner in the house. It takes those brown specks off frying pans and ranges, removes KoolAid and Grape juice stains from formica, safely scours surfaces that can't tolerate real cleanser or steel wool pads, it disinfects, deoderizes, is cheap, readily available... I buy it in 5 pound bags, and keep a decorative jar of it on my kitchen sink, since I use it pretty much every day.

Being in retail a long time I'm not surprised at all. Hopefully people will object with their wallets. This is another one that slays me....when large chains offers sales. In my state (Illinois) this is part of the consumer protection laws: It is an unfair or deceptive act for a seller to compare current price with its former (regular) price for any product or service, unless one of the following criteria are met: a) the regular price is equal to or below the price at which the seller made a substantial number of sales of such products in the recent regular course of its business; b) the former price is equal to or below the price at which the seller offered the product for a reasonably substantial period of time. I find extremely unlikely the big chains bring in merchandise and let it sit a full price for any period of time. But customers like to believe they are getting items on sale. I have a related issue pertaining to a recent online purchase my 16-year-old DD made for a pair of Ugg boots. It seems the transaction was for an online store in the UK and boots shipped directly from China. I only realized this after she placed the order and when the boots came in I wondered if they were counterfit; esp. as they came wrapped in plastic in a brown paper envelope (no Ugg shoe box). DD felt the quality was inferior to her friends who bought in stores. When I looked into the company in more detail they have a very restrictive return policy and seller pays the cost to return. DH is skeptical we'd even get our money back unless we dispute it with our credit card. I don't know if we could dispute it or not as we have no proof the boots are not what they say they are (they do look like Uggs and have the Ugg label), plus I assume we'd have to pay the cost to return to China. We paid $80 (or about 1/2 price what you pay in the store). So are they just a version made by Ugg but inferior quality for an online store, counterfit or are they genuine? Right now we're about ready to chalk this up as a valuable lesson for DD in being a savvy shopper and checking return policies more carefully next time unless anyone else has other suggestions?

News to me too ! I just threw away an empty foil box and got it out of the trash to see.LOL I always curse the foil because it always comes out of the box when I'm rolling it off.My DS buys the cheap foil and it would always come out of the box.I thought it was because it was cheap,but it even has the tab!LOL thanks for the information.I'll have to spring that one on my kids tomorrow cause I know they didn't know that either.

just checked mine and the only one that had it was the store brand of plastic wrap. Not the waxed paper nor the aluminum foil nor the parchament paper. All of them are name brands. :(

I use the Sam's plastic wrap from Wal-Mart - and it has a different designed box. Once I figured out how to use the crazy box - it is great. It is the BEST plastic wrap out there.

I did know that about the al foil box though :)

Well, I'll be......had to go check. Gladwrap had a little notation that said to press to secure the roll. Even a store brand of foil had the little tab.

Gee, Linda, I now am smarter than when I got up this morning. Mine are also the cheap, off-brand, but still had the tabs. One didn't say 'push here' but had the tabs. Thanks.

I just fetched the Reynolds aluminum foil box. It said nothing about press tabs in the instructions, but there they were!

This is making me laugh. I got the e-mail the other day too. I had to get right up and check. Sure enough the plastic and the foil had em. I stood there in the kitchen and said 'no way!'. How could we go all this time and not know that. All that past aggravation over the plastic wrap flying out of the box and landing on the food I was trying to cover, only to have the roll get all mucked up from the food.

Don't I feel silly now

I have always opened the box pull the wrap outa little, and close the lid, this allows me to grasp the whole box and pull out what I need, and tear it off. I don't use saran wrap type wrap, but works on the foil and wax paper. I'll have to see what you are all talking about with press tabs.

I received this "valued" information in an email just this week. I'd NEVER known it until them, nor had any of the folks I emailed the news to either. Can you even believe this is just now getting around? Unbelieveable. Argggg!
