I've been using one on my front door to hang wreaths for several years without a problem. However, I'm not sure that I would trust them for something as heavy and fragile as a mirror. If you decide to use one, be sure to follow the instructions for cleaning the wall and letting the hook's adhesion cure before hanging your item on the hook.

Cat - I use 3M Command Adhesives for everything hanging on my walls, from small wall plaques and photographs, to large (3'x4') mirrors, and even huge paintings hanging in my foyer. They have all been there for 5 years and still haven't budged an inch. I lOVE them.

Yes, 3M Command adhesive works great. I have used this product a lot too. If you are worried about the weight, use multiple hooks - picture wire in a crossing M shape. The weight limit is for the adhesive tab - more tabs, more holding power. See that the lower weight limit hooks have smaller tabs. Follow the directions, giving the adhesive time to adhere before using. I think the directions suggest an hour. The true magic is when you want to remove them. Don't pull out, strrrrretch down and then the adhesive bond is broken. The tab will stretch out like a long string of silly putty. For pictures, I prefer the picture hanging tabs that look like velcro (it isn't velcro). Once you start using this stuff, you'll never drill another hole. At my house, hooks are now on the backs of doors and inside cabinets. The locking hooks are on the back of furniture for wire management.

Another huge fan of Command adhesive. Jlcjlr gave a great tutorial in their post. If you follow the directions and note the limitations, you will fall in love, and likely wonder why it took you so long to start using them!

We hung painted dropcloths as backdrops for a production of The Music Man in our church sanctuary using 5/lb command hooks. Worked great. Nothing fell. 10' x 12' drop cloth. Used multiple hooks to make it hang properly.

I hung a 10 pound mirror on a slick granite backsplash with 3M Command strips and it hasn't moved an inch in 4 years. It's over my kitchen sink where it gets splashed a bit, too.

You didn't ask, but thought I'd toss it in. ;) I like Ook hangers, the 'Classic Professional' ones. They are all I use. The pin hole, even on the largest size, is very small. I have a couple very heavy large mirrors and used 3 of the larger ones (for heavier weight), no problems. Used to be hard to find, not so much now. LNT, BedBathB, Lowes and Ace all carry them.

I haven't had such good luck with the Command hooks. Not only have I had several pull loose from the wall, but they've damaged the paint and drywall in the process. Just another POV to consider.

Totally Confused

I think a lot of one's success depends on:

1) What the wall is painted with.
2) How recently the wall has been painted.
3) Whether or not the wall is CLEAN. When we hung backdrops, we ALWAYS cleaned the wall with rubbing alcohol.

I tried one on the screened porch. I think the humidity was too much for it.

/i am with totallyconfused. I used the strips to hang a very lightweight framed print in a bathroom which is not used much. It was up for a few months, and then a few weeks ago when I looked in, the print was on the floor, no damage but still.... and yes the strip was still on the wall. go figure. I think I will use nails and hooks.

There is specific command adhesive for bathrooms/humid situations.

Here's a weird one. I just had my house vinyl-sided and would like to use one of these 3M Command adhesive hangers to hold up a few guide wires for my clematis to climb up! I don't want to puncture holes in my siding! But does 3M make these hooks to work outdoors? I guess there is a water-resistant one that folks like that I can try.

What do you all think? Any suggestions helpful.

I've recently started using them and have had mostly good luck. The only failure I've had with them is when I tried to install in the garage. I didn't clean the wall and I tried to immediately hang something on it. Totally my fault in the failure.

If I have a 14 pound picture, can I count on three 5-pound Command strips providing adequate support?
