It's very cool. I could see it with a cherry floor or cherry cabinets or cabinets with a warm honey finish.

We ordered ours through our local tile store. They had it shipped here from Ca. It's Jeffrey Court Chapter 9 pietra opus. Comes in quartz (most popular) or slate. In quartz the glass tiles are clear and peachy. In the slate the glass tiles you get are black and burnt umber. Some order the glass tiles in different color and replace some of the ones in the quartz with the darker burnt umber looking ones.

She posted to that thread which ran March 2008. Her kitchen is stunning so try to take a look at the pictures. Once she posted everybody got on the fire and ice bandwagon. It's a beautiful backsplash that can go with lots of counters.

chris45ny, I got it, thanks so much for reposting the link, well worth it I am going to drool over the photos now, just got to talk DH into remodel of kitchen to include this backsplash or one similar. I might be able to create it by mixing and matching some stone tiles, I saw some on Daltile I liked too, I'll dig up the link and post here, I love the rough look of this one though, nothing better than natural stone look.

here's the Daltile with a similar look; it is Valais, second row, first two examples, click to make them bigger, I like the little dotted black insets.

The Daltile looks nice too, slightly more contemporary maybe because the edges of the tiles are smooth and not tumbled and they are all the same depth (thickness) unlike fire & ice.

The Daltile is nice but more uniform in the colors-either shades of beige or brown. I got 6 boxes of fire and ice quartz-5 sheets in each box. The colors are different on each sheet but all the sheets compliment each other. Here are pictures of the top sheet from 2 of the boxes. Some have the tiger striping. Colors-shades of gray, rust, sand/beige, some white-very striking.

chris45ny, thanks for posting the photos, I see the difference, wow, that is really nice stuff that fire and ice, where did you order it from via your tile store? is it pricey? I am redoing on a budget and now I found something I love and DH is about ready to hit the roof over the escalating costs, just did a roof, resurfaced pool, painting inside, then outside, then floors, we have concrete speckled with paint now ha!

Jodi, thanks, I looked at all the photos of your kitchen, just lovely. I am assuming this backsplash material must installed similar to slate where a grout release must be applied before install to keep grout out of crevices of stone?

My tile store ordered the F & I for me. It was shipped from Calif. to where I live-Orchard Park, NY. I paid $12.09 per sheet which is 11 3/4 x 10 1/2. The total shipping charge for the 6 boxes was $79.38. So, it figures out to be around $15 per sq/ ft. for me and that includes shipping and tax. The only thing we were told to do was to seal the installed backsplash before grouting and again, after. For that we bought Aqua Mix Sealer's Choice Gold.

If you find a tile you love you can always wait to do the backsplash.

Springvillegardens, not sure I understand your question regarding install and grout, but then again, I didn't install it myself so even if I did understand what you were asking, I couldn't answer with authority. :-)

But, I will tell you this ... I did have to clean some grout out of each square of glass which has texture that catches the grout. Not really a tough chore but then we don't have a huge amount of backsplash to deal with.

jodi, thanks, I would suspect the glass tiles would be the easiest to clean; natural stone is porous and will tend to absorb the coloring of the grout, hence the grout release. I think I'll find a really good tile guy for this backsplash as my back isn't what it was at our last house and know I can't do it myself this time.
