How do you protect wood floors from furniture damage?
Comments (1)If you want your sofa to remain stationary, don't use felt pads or it will scoot across the floor when you sit on it. I use felt pads on dining chairs and occasional tables, and on very heavy pieces (like TV cabinets) that won't move with casual contact. But be aware, you need to keep them clean or they will hold grit and act like sandpaper. Furniture "cups" come in square and round, in many sizes, in brown and tan and clear and wood. I have them under anything with legs or casters. They are also available with "teeth" for use on rugs. I bought most of my furniture protectors at Home Depot....See MoreNeed to protect my wood floors from my chairs
Comments (3)There is no solution that will work long-term except a rug. Eventually everything wears and you end up with scratches before you notice that it's time to replace your solution. Even if the pad/slider/whatever is in good shape, one little piece of grit between the floor and the chair and it's scratched. I didn't put a rug under my DR table...I am resigned to having to refinish before we sell. Since this is my "toe tag" house...I probably won't have to worry about it for awhile....See MoreHow to protect wood floors from chair scuffing?
Comments (15)The biggest problem here is that the bottom of furniture legs are not at an even angle with the floor. Stick on glides either slowly work their way off or wear on one edge until the leg meets the floor. The best working glides have enough swivel/tilt to allow the pad to sit even with the floor. GlideGuys Universal Glides have this swivel/tilt and also roll like a horizontal caster. GlideGuys have interchangeable bases for either hardwood or carpet and felt bases can be purchased separately if they wear or are damaged. GlideGuys are made in USA and can be reused for long life. Remember that the glides used on new furniture are the cheapest option the manufacturer can use to keep the legs from being damaged before the sale and not intended to be a good choice to be used on either hardwood or carpet and should be changed before use....See Moreprotecting hard wood floors from stool/chair legs
Comments (16)Yes, I confess, I am a closet clean freak. I try to pretend I am not but really I can not help it. I don't love to clean, I just can't relax if I walk on a floor with even one tiny little sand grit on my foot. Even with college roomates I was the girl cleaning at 3 am. While everyone was passed out drunk. I was raised this way. You should see my sisters. We all scrub our floors on hands and knees. No one walks in our homes with shoes on. Every night before bed I wipe down the floors in the kitchen. Maids quit with me they don't get fired. : ) I must be from a long line of cleaning ladies... When I gave birth to my first child, my mother and aunts arrived. My husband was shocked to find one aunt scrubbing the sidewalk in front of our home. She bleached the steps and walkway. It was then DH realized that he married into a family of clean freaks. Sorry to go off topic. I guess this is why the felt pads work for my floor. Or maybe it is me working for the felt pads. > Boxerpups (Yes, I chase dog hair like the rest of the world)...See Morebungalow_house
