Cabinet maker wants to store my cabs in my house
Comments (18)OP wrote that she said she'd be ready in "a few months", which does not mean two months. A couple of months means two months. IMO, the cabinet maker should have called prior to building and looked at his schedule and scheduled accordingly. He knows how much room he has in his shop! OP does not. IF he was just 'not busy' in January and knew he had other kitchens coming up and would rather work on OP's cabinets anyway rather than delay, then he should be responsible for storing those cabinets if she does not want to or can not store them. OP's cabinet maker is surely aware of the pitfalls in time management. He knows that working with DIY is totally different than working with professional builders that can give a spot on date that cabinets would be needed in a project. If I were the cabinet maker, Plan A would be to ask OP to store them, too. If she said no, then I'd go on to plan B, which would be my responsibility. We all like to save money. You just have to decide how much you trust you are willing to put into all of the responsibility factor should you assume it....See MoreNeed a solid plan to give cabinet maker, please help!
Comments (7)Caliente, thanks so much, that makes a lot of sense, I'll look extra carefully at burner sizes/location now. robotropolis, thanks for the pictures and advice its very helpful. The fridge cannot be moved, the doorway leads to a small mudroom. I will probably have a pantry in the mudroom so I'm Ok not having a tall one. I might turn the fridge 90 degrees, that's how it is now, but I cant fit a cabinet next to it if I want to keep a 36" walkway around the island there. Anyone else care ease my mind that my prep sink is in a good spot?! Or where to put a wall oven if I separate it from the cooktop? LWO, Thanks I appreciate your feedback. Im going to a GW highly recommended cabinet shop. I assume they will be perfectly capable of telling me what is or isn't possible when I go meet with them. I was just hoping to have the best idea of what I want when I go, because I'm not sure how much creative advice they give. I was just hoping to get some of the gw members' opinions on any nice features you could envision in my layout as well as point out any red flags if I placed anything in a less than ideal spot. Typical things people ask on this board, no?! As I tend to do, I think I asked too many broad questions in one post. Im still learning ;-/ I can't afford a separate KD. The custom quote was a little less than the kitchen design shops I've been to, but not enough to justify me hiring a separate designer. If this meeting doesn't go well and he is an "I only build it, nothing else" type person, then perhaps I'll head back to the Brookhaven/Medallion dealers around here so I have a KD to work with....See Moremeet with cab maker tomorrow - help with oven and dish placement
Comments (14)i had wanted the dishwasher to the left and another KD that i had met with said i could put it there. the KD we are using with our cabinet maker said there wouldn't be room to keep the sink centered on that run if the DW is on the left. I'm not sure if having it centered is that big a deal to me though. The only problem i see with having it to the left will be during clean up, if i keep the dishwasher open while loading, it may be harder for people to help me. i'm going to have to ask about that overhang. i think it was put there because she likes to have some room behind the faucet. BTW, she doesn't like my idea of pantry next to fridge on range wall....See Moreplease help-asap! cab.maker says latch rocks on bead frame?
Comments (48)Michelle, I know how disappointed you must be and you may have already resolved this problem. Style wise we are VERY similar in our choices. I LOVE latches. My husband does not. I am compromising by using latches up high and on display cabinet and then I am going to use glass knobs on the other doors. It is very consistent with a kitchen from 1900-1940's at least. I know that we cannot see your entire layout and you probably are so set in your decision but I having the bead fail or break off would be horrible. We have a very old kitchen in our house with an original cabinet from the 1880's. The doors are inset and there are icebox latches on the cabinet BUT the bead is FLUSH with the door not raised as yours is. GOOD LUCK! I see your cabinet door detail very well from your pictures. That was my second choice door style. I like it very much. Mine had a slightly rounded inner edge with out the flat part. I was worried the flat part would be a dust catcher. I think they only look different from up close though....See Moresouthernstitcher
