My Grandson will be going to Cape Town, S. Africa this summer

He will spend 2 months there learning (computer) coding. He is majoring in Computer Science.

As many of you know he got a full scholarship to Dartmouth and is just finishing his first year and getting all A's.

Last summer he went to Beijing and was learning Mandarin. He had a wonderful time and I'm sure he will have a great time in Africa, too.

My grandson is one of the ambassadors, scroll down to the 4th row and click on Gabe Corso. That's not one of his best photos but.....

Handsome and brilliant says proud grandmother. He's always gotten A's and is musically gifted, too

Flora, overseas phone calls are an option, however, I'll be damned if I can figure out how to actually do the dialing right on the first try. LOL And if you use a pre purchased card like I do to keep costs down, there is lots of dialing involved. LOL. I have occassionally made some calls to New Zealand, Australia, and England, and I just hate the cost. I know there are some economical phone plans out there but to have to pay a monthly fee when I call maybe three or four times a year, it isn't worth it. The other thing, not everyone I've dealt with speaks english, so.... it's better to do business with the old computer that interprets for you and use the credit card, hence a pre paid credit card. As it is, I always use my office address anyway. My personal info stays personal. However, if you read the posts, you'd see that not everyone is comfortable with putting credit card info with your personal info on the net. Kind of gives me an upleasant feeling anyway...identity theft and all. Not ALL those site are so secure you know. Finding the most cost effect way to do it is key.

Cori Ann, that was a hilarious story, I could not stop laughing! By the way, I posted some pics of TRM climbing over an arch on your post, hope it can help in answering your question. By the way, I also saw you ordered Figaro Panarosa - you will looooove that rose - it is one of my favourites with very little thorns (I have it espaliered on the fence between Claire Rose and John Claire). Please update us later on how it is growing in your garden! Beth and Cynthia: Acropolis is very pretty! We don't have it here but I wish I could see it in real life. Koko Loko is not in commerce here either but I obtained one plant from Ludwig (I actually had two but one did not make it). I rarely see the brown colouring on it but I love the grey tones as well. I do however wish I could get a rose with the same colouring in a nice old fashioned shape. I will try to post some more photos soon but will do it on the rose gallery :-) Liezel

Gosh, I have tried three times to post photos without success, but I have sure enjoyed everyone else's. I already planned to add a Brussels Griffon when my nest is empty, but now I am wondering whether it's too late in life for me to acquire a lake cabin and plan a trip to Spain, too! So many good ideas for summer enjoyment here. We are a lucky bunch of humans. I hope to return to this thread in February when spirits are as low and be reminded of better days ahead.

It should be interesting. Cape Town, SA is entering their winter as we enter our summer.

Warn your son to watch out for pick-pockets in crowded lobbies such as airports, bus and train stations, and hotel lobbies. Main targets are wallets, pass ports, jewelry and watches. Do not leave any luggage unattended for a second.

Several people I know have been to Cape Town as a stop on the Semester at Sea voyage. They all loved it: Hikes with stunning views off of Table Mountain, One of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world, local wine, and the chance to see some of Africa's famous wildlife. Even if he doesn't learn anything more in the classes than he would in similar classes in America, it will likely be a transformative experience.
