This is so much a matter of personal taste, no right or wrong.

Our kitchen is mid tone wood, Danby counters (as of yesterday). I just ordered 2x6 "bone china" crackle tiles. I thought a lot about putting a herringbone patch above the stove but I decided to keep it all running bond throughout. It just works better with the style of kitchen we're doing.

I like the idea of the subway tile and then the second mosaic tiles (that you had posted in previous post)for behind the stove. I think with your cabinets and playing off of the light through the window it would look great..
Maybe do the subway on a herring bond behind the stove and then framed with maybe 3-4 rows of the glass tiles.
What were you thinking of for patterns?

well, orginally i thought about doing what you suggest, 3 or 4 rows of the glass tiles with a herringbone type of pattern like this

I just asked our tile guy for his honest opinion & and said "you know, with your granite lady i think the glass tiles will be just too busy"!!!

perhaps if i just did the subway tiles in the herringbone pattern that might give it a little something, without it being too busy. what do you think?

are those sparkly tiles in the second pic of your last thread 1.5x1.5 tiles? do they come tinier?

okay, i kinda like the little bling, but maybe in tiny tiles, like that little tiny mosaic border in doonie's?

is there anything like that? maybe more monchromatic than the small tiles you posted in the first pic?

upon closer look, those second pic tiles have a little beigey/tan frame around them, don't they?

i agree with blfenton that the light from the window will give you a little sparkle that will be nice. but this is YOUR kitchen! i don't want to steer you wrong.

I'm in the camp of a little bling is good. I have character cherry cabs, wood floor, soapstone counters. I've been waffling about the backsplash forever it seems. I want a design of some sort behind the cooktop. Plain subway tile the whole way is too bland and boring to me. I like the pic of the herringbone pattern and I'm sitting here looking at samples of Sonoma Tantrum tiles, just like the Market Collection you show. My current thought is doing the herringbone pattern bordered by the 1x8 glass tiles and then framed with chair rail the same as the field tiles...except I can't decide what to use for the field tile. So I hope you will post pics soon to show us what you decide....and maybe help me decide!

My last kitchen was similar to yours- kind of french, with square antique yellow and cream crackled subway tile. I know it is confusing when you see so many things you like, but try to keep your theme in mind- glass tiles are not french country, they are modern. Plus I think you will find that they are kind of trendy, and will date your kitchen in a few years. Love that herringbone tile look though!

Ok I like color and pattern in a kitchen so color my answer with that in mind, but I think you NEED the glass tiles or you will be a bit blah. Your granite is pretty but it's not by any means wild so a little punch for accent will bring it all together.

I have crackle tiles in honey color with cherry cabs and a large marble mosaic of chickens in a barnyatd behind my stove as well as pretty wild granite. I didnt go subtle on any of it or they would have drowned each other out...they need balance and your glass tile brings that balance to the mix.

yeah--i do like a little bling too. my house is more transitional/tradtional.

behind the range will be a focal point from our great room so i would like a little something extra back there.

i read on other posts on here the challenges with my space restrictions...only aboupt 28 inches to tile. so, i think i'll go ahead & purchase the first mosiacs and perhaps only use one row. I can have him edge out some type of picture frame with the herringbone pattern inside.
tile guy said he can lay it out for me, than if i don't like it i can forgo the glass tiles.

despite having windows in the kitchen, it's not very bright so i would love to have a little sparkle in there.
