second decorenthusiaste and queenvictorian until we see photos and plan it's hard to advise properly my general comment though would be-is there any need that you can meet in that master bedroom, besides sleeping and other bedroom-y stuff, and working in the office? just an example-say I'd have this space..I'd think..great, I can fit a library in here (because I never have enough space for books, and I find them very calming too) and you might want not a library but something else what is something that you can do there, would happily do there, in addition to other things? first, define your needs..in this case wants and desires, since the room is so large. After you think: ok I'd rather it function in a way such and such"-you think of a plan-what has to be there, what'd be cool to have there, how to get from that plan to reality.

Yes Helen that is the goal I am going for just a separate comfy living space that I can relax in that isn’t always in the eye of people who walk into my house. On our first floor we do have a separate office space for my husband as he works from home every day but on the occasion I do work from home it would be nice to work somewhere that isn’t my kitchen island or my dining table but since I don’t do it often I don’t need a dedicated office of my own, just a small desk in this space would work fine. Our main floor has: Living Room/Dining Combo Kitchen Office Bathroom Guest room (the guest room has a pullout couch in it with a tv). We entertain a lot during the holidays so we didn’t want this to strictly be a guest room so we could use it for extra entertaining space. I also have young nieces and nephews so it doubles as a guest room when they sleep over We also have a basement that is half workroom/laundry and the other side is finished which I have yet to do anything with besides storage. I don’t really want this space to be another guest room - I like the separation when guests stay over since there is another bathroom on the first floor and I have a room dedicated for guests already. I do like your idea of a coffee maker/mini fridge. Perhaps I could add a small bistro table with two chairs...

For me, I wouldn't want the sink in the island facing the living room. You either end up with a 2 tier island, which defeats the purpose of having a large counter for baking or having kids/grand-kids helping with prep or you have dish soap, dirty dishes, washrag, sponge sitting on prominent display to the living room. I would probably give some thought to switching the dining area and the kitchen. Keeping the kitchen where it is I would do a reach in pantry rather than a walk in. The wall in the bedroom would extend to the end of the room creating a small loss of space, but would let you center the bed on that wall. To save money, could you sleep in a "non-master" upstairs for this short time, then move downstairs? - How "master" do you see your "masters"? That is, when you say "master bedroom", are you envisioning a slightly larger room with a modest walk-in closet and a private 3-piece bath ... or does "master" to you mean a spacious room with a seating area, a massive closet and a luxury bath? The question isn't just, "Should I have two masters?" It's, "Just how much will I put into a master?" Your own vision of "how much" can make a world of difference in this question. - Don't overbuild for your neighborhood. Remember that the biggest, most expensive house in the neighborhood is "drawn down" by the more modest houses that surround it. - Summary: Don't be caught up in just whether this is a desirable idea -- it is.
