48' vs 60' or greater built in?
Comments (13)A Subzero Pro 48 will give you a certain splash and everyone will know you paid a lot for it, but it won't give you the most function for your dollars. I have the Thermador columns and love them -- I think we've talked about that on another thread. Subzero's ice at the very bottom was not good for me. You both have a lot more room than I do in my kitchen. If I had that much room, I would go for at least a larger pair of columns, but maybe a set of fridge drawers near the prep and baking areas. The fridge is close enough as it is, but if the kitchen were 50% larger..... I do have fridge drawers in my breakfast room, built into a hutch. Having things where you will use them and where they will keep extra traffic out of your work areas is a very good thing. Of course, my kids and my sister love the fact that the person sitting closest can actually reach over and open the drawer to get more milk or juice during a meal. Mine are Perlick -- I had to have the 24" instead of Subzero's or Kitchenaid's 27". Are you still considering a pair of the 36" FDs? With as much room as you have, I don't know that I would put them next to each other -- for function more than for looks. You have enough room and enough budget to put what you need where you want to have your cold and frozen things....See MoreFamily Room Built-Ins - Reveal

Comments (11)Lovely space. I'd fill those cabs sparsely, just because I don't like my good china on display in the dining room. So for me, a few books stacked flat, small sculpture, a beautiful bowl, a painting that no one needs to look at much (or closely), some vases might lurk behind the glass. One fabulous tureen that never gets used....umm,guess you can tell I'm typing and looking at my corner cabs at the same time! Some one else might feature a prized collection of most anything. Legos to monsters. I recall a picture where someone featured her handbags. Basically, all the ideas you might put on open shelves will work here, too. As would papering or painting the backs of the cabs. Guess the point is to keep it authentically YOU. And as others have mentioned,no need to rush. Comments (31)When doing a tub deck that also becomes a shower bench, the slab needs to have a seam under the glass. That way the tub deck can be level, but the bench section can be installed with the proper slope so that water drains off of it. This requires precise math, and excellent framers, and stone fabricators. It’s easy to get wrong. In a large bath, adding the second handheld by the bench, on a separate valve, makes a lot of sense. No cold bench that way! That leaves the main head for most quick showers, and you still have a handy hose for shampoo rinsing. A portable bench makes the most sense for someone needing physical assistance. Unfortunately, most portable shower benches are not that sturdy, and can actually lead to slips and injuries. That’s why the fold down benches are more popular for those needing assistance. The wood bench dogged into a wall is an interesting idea. How well it would work would lie in the waterproofing details and the detail of how it dogs into the wall....See Moreyayagal
