Replacing all of my downstairs hardwood -- am I insane?

My wife and are in love with our house except for the fact that it doesn't have a very good family room/great room space where we can all gather comfortably. To that end, we're retaining an architect to design an approximately 400 square foot bump out of the current living room.

We had originally considered doing this as a 4-season sunroom/conservatory with slate floors, but realize that this doesn't solve our need of a large contiguous gathering space. Here is my question:

> We currently have a mixed oak hardwood floor in the entire first floor of our house that we refinished it when we bought the house 5 years ago. Is it going to be impossible to have the hardwood in the addition match the existing hardwood without refinishing everything?

> Is it crazy to just replace all of our downstairs (approx 1200 square feet) hardwood with new prefinished hardwood floors? We have a newborn and we really can't tolerate the mess and smell of refinishing all of those floors again.
