Hi - I'm doing 2 36" wide pantries that are 18" deep (I think the shallower depth is the key to making them work) and I'm so excited to have such a wide pantry vs. my 2 current 20" wide & separate pantries which are so non-functional it drives me crazy. I'd much rather have side-by-side storage than deep storage (which I currently have - 24" deep - and can't stand...)

You will have so much more storage room this way then 2 separate pantries, in my opinion. I'm going to use baskets and canisters to help with the space (much cheaper than pullouts to start with) and that way I can also store all my household stuff in there as well.

But I think the key is not doing them too deep.

We're not doing pullouts with an 18" depth - at least we don't think so (yet...) - will live with it for a bit.

We have the pull outs. I'm as pro-efficiency as the next person but opening 2 doors hasn't bothered me in the least. We have drawers on the bottom and I love this configuration. There was a thread recently about what people "loved" about their new kitchens and there were quite a few posts with "pantry with roll outs." Any other configuration I can think of would have more minuses than this one. An advantage to the roll outs is that the entire vertical space can be used---no "reach behind" or "lift up and over" space has to be left between shelves to get the stuff in the back. I needed to maximize the storage space.
