File a dispute in writing with your credit card company. They will decide if you are due a refund.

It never hurts to ask! Give the cc company a call--what do you have to lose?

I bought some plants from a D.G. member, called The Plumeria Place. I didn't receive the plants I paid for, except for one. It arrived dead.

The credit card company said the selling company would have to refund my money - I got a check for two of the plants, but the one I received doa TPG would not give me a refund - nothing I could do.

Instead of going to your credit card company, try calling back and speaking to the hotel manager. Most beach hotels have a stated policy that they will not refund for weather related early departures; however I have found that most hotels will give you some sort of compensation, such as credit for future stays. It helps if you are a return/repeat customer; if you are, by all means bring that up, as in "...we have come here every spring for the past ten years..."

The person you spoke to was probably not the manager, right? If so, she is not authorized to make an exception. The manager is.

If the manager refuses, you can try your credit card company, but I am not sure they could help, unless the reservation you made allowed for refunds for unused nights.

Many of the beach hotels have a 3 night minimum too and that may cause a problem, as well as the weather clause. But this economy has those same hotels hurting so I think you may be able to get the hotel manager to agree to credit you for future use. He'll benefit by having a happy customer and by filling up an empty room! Good luck!

Most hotels I've stayed in have a 2-3 day cancellation limit--you have to cancel so many days in advance. Generally, the cancellation policy is explained, and you agree to it, when you make your reservations. I honestly don't think you're going to get anything back. Can't hurt to ask further, of course, but it's not the hotel's fault that you decided to go home early. I've done that myself, for various reasons, and NEVER expected to get any money back UNLESS the hotel itself was uninhabitable.

I'm so sorry your time in Daytona was not so wonderful because of the weather. I'm really grateful for the 34 hrs non-stop rain we've had here so far on Mon and Tues because we need it so bad, but it isn't so great when it ruins plans. I would suggest Before disputing the nonrefundable charge with the credit card bank you may want to make sure to read the terms and conditions of reserving rooms in that particular hotel. They are specific that you have to pay if you book the room for a time limit and then try to renege on the time. There is an acceptable time limit usually for a cancellation of a reservation 48 -72 hrs is most often the norm. It is a matter of they turn down other bookings because you have said you are going to be using the room for so much time. With the economy in the crapper losing money because of weather related early departure is definitely not on.
You can dispute the charges with your credit card bank and probably get the money back. Credit card banks are being most agreeable if there is no specific contract. Unfortunately just filing a dispute will of course put your name and credit card # on lists of flagged cards. These lists are maintained and used by many places and companies that accept credit cards for many things from Dr. offices, Spa and salon establishments to ordering on-line or by telephone. Once on this list it is virtually impossible to get off the list. It does not hurt your credit in anyway except the companies you try to buy from see you as a risk and will not always accept your card. This is not against the law or any kind of prejudice. It is just a way to make sure the people who have accepted your card and word you are making a good faith transaction get the money you have agreed to pay. When you dispute a charge that has been legally made it makes you a risk for the next transaction and many companies just plain don't want the hassle. Even when the charge is not refunded the seller has to spend time and money on researching the incident and that is not compensated.

Joann, try writing a note to the hotel manager. Most hotels have a standard cancellation policy, most are 6 pm day of arrival but some resort hotels are 24, 48 or 72 hours in advance depending on the season. In addition more and more are lsting penalties for early departures, if your hotel has that policy they should have had it listed on the registration you signed at check in. But even if it is listed that way, I would ask for a credit to use within the next 6 months. It's worth the ask, the most they can say is no.

I'm not sure I understand. You left home yesterday, paid for two extra days. You decided to leave early and you want a refund from the CC company. I'm confused. I don't see where they'd be liable to you. From what I've seen so far, you got what you ordered but changed your mind. Kind of like ordering meals at a restaurant and you decided you didn't want it. Unless there's something I'm missing.

I made a mistake on my date of arrival at one hotel and showed up a day later, they charged me. I called the corp offices and they gave me a refund.

I can't see you getting your money back. You paid and THEN decided to leave?

I've been successful many times when disputing a charge, but there has to be a good reason...you didn't get the merchandise, etc. etc. etc. NOT rain on a vacation.

We have been predicted at least 7 days of almost steady rain here. I can't believe you did not know this before you left for Daytona. Color me confused.

I gotta admit, I'm confused also. You paid for 2 extra days the same day that you left for the hotel? I'm up here in Maine and even I knew of the rain in Florida. Having worked in a large beach front hotel for many years...bad weather, rain/snow,etc., was not a reason a refund was given to a guest if they chose to leave early. The room was held just for you. They may have turned down another offer for that same room to accommodate your reservation. So I'm not sure why you think you should get a refund. But call the manager, you never know. At the hotel I worked at they would not refund your money because it was your choice to leave early. NancyLouise
