Yesterday I finished the nativity quilt top (see July thread) which will be donated for the church bazaar. I decided when that was done I was going to make something for myself from my UFO box! So today I'll pick a project and try to have it finished this month.

I know, technically the nativity quilt isn't done (needs quilting) but the bazaar isn't until November and I wanted to get started on something new today! LOL

Tomorrow at my guild meeting we are also getting our challenge blocks, so I may work on that some this month. It's not due till our quilt show in January, so there's no hurry.

My goals for August:
1. Bind the DWR.
2. Stitch appliques on monthly table runner and quilt.
3. Take a class by Edyta Sitar at the Appleseed Quilt Show.
4. Meet Sharon at the quilt show!
5. Finish putting borders on a quilt that I started in July.

Donna, Technically the top is completed, so you're good to go! Take a break and do something else for awhile.

Linda, I'm not the Wicked Wife....he shouldn't be 'doing' any of the projects except the plumbing. I've been after him to locate the guy that took down one of our other trees but now that DSIL has a friend and will do the roof, the tree has to come down first. I tell ya, it isn't easy being the wife of a procrastinator. @:) (see you soon)

I'm going to lose the first two weeks of the month because of work projects and a family wedding, but I have 2 things I really need to get done this month!
1. A retirement lap quilt for my boss - more details on this as I get it started! I have until Sept 10th but don't want to wait until the last minute.
2. I really want to get started again on the BOM hand applique project.
3. If I can find an extra minute I'll do the lotto this month - the block looks great and it was fun last month to have so many people participate.

I hope to get the 30's fabric P points, cut, folded and ironed...will wait until its cooler to attach them...

and...long overdue...mail off the Q for Kids...at least it is finished!

Other than school starting, I hope August is a little slower month? (yeah, right!!).

I have about one more evening and my current hand applique block (May/June/July block) will be done, so for this month, I'm only going to plan on finding and getting the pattern ready for my next block.

I still haven't really broken in my new machine, so I'd like to finish quilting my ds's quilt that I've made for him.

I've been researching stencils for dh's quilt top (top is done). I ordered a book on stenciling, so I'd like to get some stencils ordered and practice a bit on that.

The quilt I made for my dd could use some more quilting (not that I'm a little more confident). I'd like to see about a few stencils or red-work for hers, too.

I'm starting a new Girl Scout troop and our first meeting is in 2 weeks. I'm very nervous about it, but have some good co-leaders to help. I think we'll have a good troop, but I also have a feeling it's going to tie up a lot of my time.

I would like to finish this top that I've used some hand-embroidered squares that my mom made years ago that I just recently thought of. Since I've used only fabrics from my stash it isn't exactly a color-coordinated quilt, but it's mostly pinks, blues, and dark reds. I'm having to re-think the border since I messed up on the one blue that I wanted to use for it, but I'll figure out something. I am thinking about doing some tacking or tufting on it instead of quilting, my new machine has this one eyelet stitch on it that I like and I'm dying to try out. Not sure about the backing, but I do have a whole bolt of pink ticking that I bought a long, long time ago that would work. Haven't thought about the batting at all yet.

I think life will calm a bit this month so hope to:

1. Finish FMQ on baby quilt going to Germany
2. Get kaleidoscope quilt sewn together and off the design wall
3. Gather a project for retreat
4. Find something new with hand work that will excite me and stir up the quilting juices

Get all the remaining BD blocks completed. My group had a several month break - did I take advantage of that break? Noooooooo! So I want to get them all done as I have a busy fall. It is very satisfying making a block for someone special in the group ~ I find it very rewarding, and enjoyable. I have 3 or 4 left to make. I made August BD blocks yesterday & today.

Get back on track with my BOM - I don't even know which block is next....I put it all in a box - my bad.Out of sight-out of mind :(

I hope to get the borders sewn to quilts for young great niece & nephew. One is a girlie D9P, the other a Stack-N- Whack bright skateboarders.

I bought a frame and a midarm - I need to quit playing/practicing & just take the plunge and quilt something real :) It is fun just playing with it.

I did work on a sail, and completed the retrofit for our self furling system-so even though I haven't been quilting, I did get some heavy duty sewing accomplished & this made hubby happy!

Well one of my goals is to finish the hand sewing on 12 preemie blankets that I made for the hospital. And then drop them off there.

Another is to keep working on getting a quilt block from each of the 50 states for my "50 States Quilt" I have 23 states participating so far. 27 more to go. Wish me luck.

Other than these 2 things I'm just finishing some small projects. Baby shower gifts, and pillowcases.

Mailed off the Aug BD block, Q for Kids quilt and tiny triangles. Thats part of my Aug list...now on to the rest!

I missed the Put Some Zucchini on Your Neighbor's Porch Day! I hear it was yesterday.... @:)

The String/Scrappy HST's Zig-Zag is together (pic in gallery) and the borders will go on when I get back....if I remember. The machine is ready to take in for a once-over (been almost 3 years), I have a sheet thrown over the area with rulers, rotarys and bunch of other stuff....cause I never know what DH is going to do while I'm gone and not think about the dust (or whatever) he's making. Lots of errands today...take machine in, Post Office with a ton of squishies and quilt tops, get Driver's License renewed....I think someone else will be fixing supper tonight. @:)

Home from 5 weeks in the RV ... BARELY did any handquilting! too busy!!! my July goals were few & far between but didn't many of them accomplished ... oh well, there is August...

1. This was a July goal I accomplished - Visit family farm in Iowa & take pictures of barn quilt - this was put up by my cousin's husband in her memory when she died in 2007.

2. Finish August/Sept. bday blocks - going to fabric store this afternoon
3. August block lotto (3 blocks) - cut & ready to sew
4. Finish graduation quilt (2 rows to go - I miscounted in July!) - rows sewn - need to add to quilt
5. Decide on center square for Round Robin due mid-September!

It is good to be home!

So, Sharon - how did the DL renewal go? I had to renew mine last month. Can you believe all the crap you have to take for ID? What a pain. At least I had an appointment; by the time I left (around 8:30 am) there must have been 50 people in the no appointment line and 1/2 the waiting room full of ones who had already gotten through the line.

I got out a quilt project from a class about 4 or 5 years ago. It's New York Beauty style blocks in blue & yellow. I had a whopping 6 blocks (of 36) complete from class! LOL Now I have 24 complete, so I should finish them up this weekend and hopefully will get the top assembled too.

I'm on vacation next week, so who knows what I'll accomplish! LOL

Donna, I had no problem whatsoever when I renewed. I took a book to read but never even got a chance to read one page! Passport, SS, 2 address ID's and the old license and I was good to go. The only thing is, they didn't take Visa, but did Discover and MC...now how strange is that!? Oh yeah, there was a hold up while he was on the phone trying to explain to someone about what they should bring in......they just didn't 'get' it!

OK ladies, LindaOH and I met up and went through all the vendor tables at the quilt show today! I was exhausted but she stayed to take a gander at the quilts again....she was there yesterday taking a class. It sure was fun but my stamina leaves a lot to be desired....we found a ruler that neither one of us had so we each bought one in case one day we might need it. LOL 4" x 8"

Tomorrow is a family get together at my brother's about an hour north and my sister from MN will be there, too. Am excited to see my family again (without it being a funeral) and spend a few hours with them.

Sharon, I'm sure we will find a need for the new ruler.lol I looked at the quilts after you left (I only got through half of them on Thursday) and took some pictures. DH was surprised that I was home by 3:30. After supper, we got in the pool. We have to enjoy it now because before you know it, it will be too cold to get in.

Sharon, what they told me about the no-Visa situation...when the state decided to take credit cards they worked a deal with the cc companies to pay $1 per transaction instead of the usual %...Visa wouldn't go for it so FL told them no thanks. I think now they're sorry b/c so many people only have Visa debit & credit cards. I was lucky I had enough cash on me to pay!

Sue, It's a good thing you brought this back to the top! I had forgotten all about it!

I never did get the machine in, so DH took it in after I left. As far as I know, the roof is the only thing done on his list. I guess that's ok. But, he'll probably work on the plumbing this month because he waited til I left cause he needs to turn the water off. (yes, he spoils me) I worked on some applique a little bit last week. Think it's time I got my sewing out and do a little more on it.

Hope everyone enjoyed their summer (I know we didn't enjoy all the heat indexes.....nor do we like the looks of Earl heading toward the Eastern coast.)

I got the blue & yellow top done, and I got my 2009 guild Amish-style BOM blocks assembled into a top. I also got started on a top with black & white shop hop blocks...I should get that one finished this coming weekend. Then I'm taking a piecing break and planning to quilt all these tops I've put together!
