SO What Is The Catch Here?

In today's mail, I got a pretty postcard with a color photo of a huge cruise ship telling me I have a "Complimentary 8 Day Cruise" for 2, with an outside cabin, leaving from any major port in the U.S., "including Los Angeles, CA!". If I call within 24 hours, I will "also receive as a Bonus 2 RT Airfares leaving from or going to Any Major Airport in the Continental U.S.!!".

First Port of Call is LA, CA; 2nd,Freeport, Bahamas; then 3rd, St. Thomas.

There is what looks like a "Carnival" logo on the picture front, but the other side says "not sponsored or affiliated with Carnival Cruise Lines but they are a major supplier."

Now I have absolutely no interest in any cruise that has anything to do with "water", but am curious, what's "the catch"?

Things like that are usually a timeshare deal.

Sounds like a timeshare. I have known of people that do these things, although not a cruise but a stay in Vegas and various hotels. The people that I have known say that you just have to no how to say no and you say it early and they usually leave you alone after that. I've never tried it though.

Thanks, everyone. Dreamcicle Supreme is only in its second year, and yes, it does have nice substance and a decent amount of budding for a transplant. Once the tree frogs show up, I usually find at least one each day. Sorry I forgot to mail you one, Lisa! African Grape is such a great plant. Compared to most of the Munsons I grow, it's very vigorous. The color is steadfast and really doesn't have a red tint to the purple. I highly recommend that one. Chris

Some of what's been blooming here so far

Thanks everyone, for looking and for commenting! It is weird how everything is so early this year, while some of you are running late. We did have a late spring here, so I would have expected things to be later than normal here too. I guess the clocks on most of the plants are messed up. Sherry, I hope things dry up for you soon and that you're able to enjoy your blooms! That is a LOT of rain. We could use rain here, they keep forecasting it and then nothing at our house. Debra, I do not do anything special with any of my plants, no special mulching... they are not pampered at all. Picture In Picture is far from the house, on the end of newer rectangular bed; I got in fall 2016. Arctic Lace is closer to the house, maybe 20 feet from a brick wall on the west side of the house. I have had it for going on 5 years (started with two small fans) and it has not increased very quickly - but I just went out and counted and it looks like I have seven scapes, so that is better than I would have thought. Celeste, too funny about the same clematis! I have a few others too (Niobe and Huldine, and a couple of others), but they are in pots and don't do that well... and the ones I put in pots eventually die off. Will be interesting to see if a lot of your daylilies are early too... and I look forward to seeing your pictures soon! Maryl, FDCL is a light yellow. I'll try to get a better/closer picture of a bloom at some point. It's dark, drizzly and dreary here now.

The Paradigm is not recovering. The dicentra luxuriant has grow smaller. WhenI dug it up it was being choked by tree roots. In there’d box are June’s grown from a large piece of the crown when I divided a June two years. But it’s not done much. When I dug it out today there were two separate pieces. I am hoping this spot will help it along. Mostly Sunny in the morning, filtered shade pm. This is a crazy story. I had a Teeny Weeny Bikini some years ago. It Totally reverted to solid green. Now when I was walking around the yard today, I barely noticed this green thing half buried. I was thinking “ what the heck is that?” So of course I dug it up. I believe it is a leftover part of the striped Teeny Weeny Bikini. There wasn’t anything there last year. Anyway the two pieces are of of the same crown. I am interested to see what happens.

Ornamental grass can be so eye catching

I have at least 2 dz ornamental grasses. Probably more. I never counted. Yes, they are lovely, but they do come with some work depending on where you plant them. Ours are planted inbetween other shrubs. You have to either cut them down in the fall or tie them up. I tie mine up, it gives some winter texture to the landscape. I found the best way to tie them up with is 2 rows of duct tape about a foot apart. Wrap the tape 3 times or it will break over the winter. I use an old belt that has hole the whole length and pull as tight as I can, then wrap around the tape and then release the belt. You have to wear long sleeves, pants and gloves when working with them or they will leave little cuts on your skin. Glasses also. They are also very tough to dig up once established. To cut them down we use a good gas hedge trimmers. Now my daughter has hers planted standing alone. She just burns them where they stand in the spring. Much easier. I didn't get around to it this year, but I want to transfer some of my zebra grass up to camp next year. But it is definitely going to be stand alone so I can just take a match to it.

Obviously they want to sell you something, and it will not be fun to try to unstick yourself from them.

Do a google of " postcard offering 8 day complimentary cruise".

If it is a timeshare and you go, they start out with low pressure, then another person--more pressure--another person tries to make you feel so guilty if you don't. They also start out high--8-10 thousand, forget to mention yearly dues are very high, then they drop the price, but forget to tell you that it is for only 2 weeks per year. We ran into alot of them when we were RV'ing. Boy what a racket.

"First Port of Call is LA, CA; 2nd,Freeport, Bahamas; then 3rd, St. Thomas."

It's going from LA to the Bahamas? How? Thru the Panama Canal? Or around South America? LOL. Like to see THAT trip in 8 days...

There would definitely be high-pressure selling tactics used on you. They feel entitled since they were 'generous' enough to give you a free cruise. I always avoid these types of 'deals' like the plague. To me, it would be SO not worth it.

LOL at all the ports. Do they have a map? Nope. Not gonna work--throw the card away. Too good to be true? You know that saying! LOL

Thanks for your input. I really didn't run across any first person accounts of exactly what happens with this kind offer, though I both emotionally & intellectually know nobody's going to give me something for nothing. And besides, I didn't want to go anyway.

On another matter, & interupting my lunch, I did get a solicitation from a telemarketer today. Seems as though this painting business has an intern program where college students learn to paint houses. And they just happen to be in my neighborhood next week. Thank Heavens our house doesn't currently need repainting, or I might have been dumb enough to have fallen for it.

Lots of scams going around. Watch out for the driveway scam--where they just happen to have some extra coatings for the driveway left over--or the people were not home. That could part of the Williams's gang. Also with spring all sorts of things going on. No matter who offers what, just ask for a card, and tell them you will contact them later and check it out.
