Crown molding around range hood chimney top.
Comments (11)Thanks for the responses guys, Yes, this is the picture. Nice to see that the owner of this awesome kitchen (nhbaskets) is still around and following the discussions as to whether or not I'll steal your crown idea ;-) I do all my own work, so there is no GC involved. I have already done all the room crown and have tried the chimney both with and without crown already. In fact, it's up now, just have not decided if I want to leave it. Yeah, it's a pain to attach, but not impossible. I can't decide which way I think looks better, so I was wondering if there was a standard way to do it. Also, with the crown you can not easily remove the chimney cover, should you ever have to. Now from what I'm hearing, the standard way seems to be to not wrap the crown around the chimney, but the reason seems to be based on how *difficult* it is rather than what actually looks best. Is there anyone else out there who has a crown-wrapped SS chimney? Any pictures?...See MoreYou Know It's Scary if I Left...
Comments (63)I wasn't going to even comment any more. But really folks. This is not about the man's tooth. It was to paint the picture of the guy hanging from the 2x4s he installed in my kitchen. He isn't poor, he has a good job with a large company that does include health and dental benefits and vacation too! He is not a subcontractor who lives in the mountains and they picked him up standing outside at Home Depot to come work on my house for the day. My beef isn't with him, just so you all know. He is a very nice guy who is trying his best. The builder should be sending someone who knows how to install a range hood to do the job. If it was above this guy's level of skill, perhaps a call to a local hvac company or an appliance store could have had the job done lickety-split and correctly. The deal was that the builder was going to install all the appliances we bought. This is the only one they have to install. (and he pushed the 2 drawer under counter freezer into place for us) We are supposed to take possession of this house on Friday. We took the hood to the job site back in April. It has sat there on the floor all this time, because "we are getting to it"......We are down to under a week. I still need to take the duct cover back to the fabricator to have it cut to its exact dimensions now. I'm not sure if that can be done in this short of a time. Hopefully the lack of a duct cover will not cause them to fail any inspections.....especially if the inspector looks closely at what's happening up there... sorry if any of you were offended. I'll post pictures when everything is done. Bee...See MoreModernaire hood arrived!
Comments (10)OK well DH and I cut away the plastic! it's safe in our basement as long as we don't have a flood. Kitchen cabinet install starts Mon or Tues, and the hood needs to go up temporarily so the cabs can be properly aligned. Anyway the thing is just gorgeous. I'm so excited! The contrast between the oil rubbed bronze and the blackened steel is more subtle than I expected. I just love it. I just have to keep the kids from using it as a coffee table in the basement b/w now and next week. FYI - our pendants will be oil rubbed bronze and our knobs/pulls will be a combo of pewter and stainless steel. I'm still trying to find a tile accent that will pick up on the blackened steel, but I won't know if that's really needed until most of it's in. It's been SUCH a long wait but it's finally happening. Today the one bath got the base vanity finalized and the countertop/sink installed. Now tiling can happen. And the hw floors in the kitchen are halfway done. Major progess. Now, c'mon modernaire hood owners - take off that plastic!...See MoreBreezy...have you decided on a countertop for your island?
Comments (16)Hi Sayde! I couldn't believe how big the crate was when it arrived. DH had cleared a spot in the garage for it, but when the guy brought it off the truck I panicked a bit. It was in a huge, wooden crate. I had to shove some stuff around to make more room for it. DH, who has years of experience with shippers in the restaurant supply industry, was seriously impressed. Still, I want to see the thing! Sorry you had issues. I can see why you didn't want to mention them in AM. I also think the $3K quote for wood counters is beatable. The wood in that quote was a select Black Walnut. The sample they sent is gorgeous, but not doable. I'm glad to hear from someone who is enjoying their own wood top that it's the way to go. The only thing that makes me hesitate in the slightest is the prep sink in the island. I'll make sure it gets Waterloxed to heck and hope for the best. Thanks for posting! P.S. Your butterflies are still calling to me.... ;)...See Morecheri127
