Amazing: cleaning out closets

Have pickup for charity center, coming Monday.

Found STUFF that was in the back of my hall closet, I had forgotten I had and never missed it. Out it goes!

Six of my mother's velveteen jackets of various colors, that I inherited and outgrew thinking I would shrink and get back into them. Out they go!

Front porch is full.

No second thoughts, no going back to retrieve.

Condo is a lot lighter now!

I AM OLDIE HERE HAVN'T POSTED SINCE 2001 Stacie,(girlsingardens),I wouldn't mind doing some trading. I am looking for some carnation's and some old handkerchiefs, some vintage linens,styrophome balls. I have a lot of items also. I could box up. I am in the works of redoing my craft room and also formal dining room. I have been doing this since Christmas when hubby got me some shelfs, looking good I do say so my self. We looked and one set of the shelfs is a different kind and is not holding up like the othere's so now I will have to take everthing off these 5 shelfs and redo it. That shelf is going in gargage. Now I have been in a neck brace for 2 weeks and have 4-6 more weeks with this I would love to do some trading. Just let me know ok.

Mommabird- I've only just started popping in here occasionally. I agree so much with the simplified closet thing. Figured it out from traveling. I'm more creative with my clothing, and always focus on favorites when I travel. That being said, my weight went the other direction a few years ago. I'd had nearly 20 years at the same set weight and then started creeping up. Then I put on the brakes, but now have been sitting at this higher weight level for about 4 years, constantly struggling to bring it back down. It's an increase of about 20 lbs! So, most of my clothes had become too tight. I finally purged the other way. Made myself try on just about everything and discarded the stuff that was just too small. When I lose the weight, one reward will be shopping for new things that please me. But, I'm glad I went ahead and purged. It's hard to let go of your "skinny" clothes because it feels like a defeat. But the "fat" closet overstuffed with all the different sized clothing isn't psychologically healthy either. Figured that I might not have the pounds off yet, but I deserved a neat "skinny" closet with clothes in it that fit. Proud of you ladies who have achieved the weight loss--it's hard work.

I had no trouble cleaning out the closets and I think it was because my husband had no interest in what he wore as long as his body was covered! I have still not cleaned out his office which is where he kept things important to him. His diplomas, awards, greeting cards and letters etc. I think it is best to start with things that were not so important to your husband. I called the Knights of Columbus which my husband belonged to and they picked up all of his clothes to donate to a men's shelter. I felt good about that. Take your time and do things as you feel able. There is no time table. Good luck to you. Satine

I have a VERY LARGE framed paint by number picture on some kind of material that mother did, when she was recovering from a heart attack.

No one wanted it when she died, and we didn't put it out at the estate sale.

Just sitting in the closet. Guess I'll pass it on to DS and let him deal with it when it comes for his time to inherit it. :o)

Haven't gotten to my closed yet. I tackled the fridge/freezer and pantry yesterday. [words of praise and admiration will be graciously accepted] Next on the agenda is my Master BR closet, and then the garage. It is truly a nightmare...my car fits, but there should be room for another car...no way! I am feeling a real need to get these things organized.

Congratulations! Have you found anything good that you missed? I lost a ring my parents gave me when I graduated from High School. Gone for 20 years. I was cleaning a clset, found a box of "junk" on the floor. Going thru it I found several pices of missing jewelry (mostly costume) and my HS ring, safe in its own little box. I immediately phoned my Mom and told her how I'd lost AND FOUND it. I never told her when it went missing.

I am going to clean my closets in the next few weeks. I haven't done a major closet cleaning and donating in the last 4 years since I moved here. Lots of stuff will be going to Goodwill.
