I have the same questions! I did some searches here - it seems to depend somewhat on the brand of paint. I'm planning to use BM Aura. For the bathroom, they have a variety specifically for bath & spa areas - so that one's easy.

For the kitchen and living room, I think I'm going to stick with matte. From what I've read here, it's very scrubbable - important to me since my stove is very close to a side wall that isn't tiled, so I'll need something that cleans up easily (without getting messed up).

And in the living room, I'm sure I'll need to do a lot of touch-ups (redecorating, a lot of moving of furniture), so matte seems sensible there too.

what is matte? we are using Dunn Edwards. they start with:
flat, low sheen, eggshell, semi gloss, and hi gloss... i would think something w/ a little sheen would be easier to clean NO?

We recently painted a bathroom with the Aura Matte (the regular version, not the Bath and Spa, since it wasn't out/available in our paint store back in Nov), and I'll never go back! LOL

LOVE the texture on the bathroom walls, and I've always preferred the AquaVelvet/Eggshell finish over Flat paint. This is a big reason why we are having our kitchen/LR/DR....repainted, two short years after they were done during our reno. I don't think the AquaVelvet holds up as well as it used to (at least here), and the texture doesn't look nearly as nice as the Aura Matte. The Aura Matte is supposed to touch-up and scrub up beautifully (trailrunner heartily endorsed it, so that was good enough for me!).
