I posted a video I took

My husband and I went to the 22nd annual Lilac Festival downtown today and afterwards wanted to go for a relaxing walk through the bird sanctuary. It's next to downtown, just a few minutes from where I live. We usually only see a few sparrows, geese and ducks. Last year we saw a couple of deer, but they were hiding. Today, we spotted a bunch of them. Glad I brought my point and shoot, because my DSLR doesn't shoot movies. I posted it to youtube if you want to see it. You can hear my husband and me talk too.

Gardenweb doesn't have an "upload video" feature so really there's no easy way to do it. Youtube provides HTML5 embed code but it uses the "i frame"(without the space, even the word is blocked here) tag which is blocked in the forums(although not in your "my page"). I don't know of a site that allows you to upload a video and provides code that uses the HTML5 "video" tag. But I really haven't searched, maybe one exists? Even then, the video would only be visible by those using an HTML5 capable browser. So yeah, it's possible but neither easy nor reliable, at least not yet. Internet Archive's player requires either JavaScript to be enabled or a modern browser that understands the HTML5 tag. Christmas Comes But Once a Year (1936), Public Domain. It would probably be easier to link to the video instead of trying to make it viewable here?

That's one of the complexities of genealogy I've discovered - sites appear and disappear, links take you to interesting possibilities and then you can't find your way back again. I've bookmarked many web addresses that have folded. It can be frustrating, especially since I'm still a novice at this and I'm sure I've missed valuable leads. Traditionally in Ireland Maire would be pronounced Moy-ra, however since the Anglicized version is Mary you now hear both pronunciations. The Irish used the name Muire to refer to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and used Maire as the common name for girls. My father wanted the Irish spelling and pronunciation but my Mom wanted the English version - so I'm Mary (but Dad always addressed my cards Maire). There are quite a few feeder roots showing and you may find that some dry up of their own accord. If there any that don't reach the soil I would definitely get rid of those as they serve no purpose. I personally trim off the stragglers, especially the finest ones as I prefer mine that way, it's personal choice at the end if the day. Maybe tidy off a few and leave the strongest ones to feed the plant while it settles into its new home this season then maybe next year when it's grown a stronger root system, maybe then take of some more. Cut off flush with the caudex with your sharpest knife or scalpel making sure you sterilise it well before each cut with a alcohol wipe or similar, that will stop any infection. The cut ends will weep a clear bitter sap which is an irritant so don't rub your eyes/mouth etc...please! It will stop if you dab it with a tissue for a moment if two, then dust with cinnamon as an anti fungal remedy, most people here recommend it. Gill UK

Those must be pretty tame deer for you to get close enough to hear the munching. The deer around here run when they spot you. Wish they didn't run in front of cars, though.

I find most deer here that are in parks very tame. A friend of mine lives on Vancouver Island and she hand feeds them. These ones didn't get too close to people, we couldn't touch them, but they were close. There's a national park on the Canada/US border. In Canada it's called Waterton National Park. There is a small village and the deer almost out number the people. They are all over the place.

Glad you all enjoyed the video. I may start making more of them. I keep forgetting my P&S camera does video.

I loved it Debby. Love seeing nature like that up close. LOL I don't think I would have been so steady with my camera had I been shooting that. I watched it a couple of times.

Minnie, no thunder. We had six days of rain yet no thunder during that either. Yesterday was the nicest day we've had in weeks. I've never seen so many people in the sanctuary before. When it's miserable weather here for so long and we finally get a good day, the entire city gets out and enjoys the parks while we can. LOL

Enjoyed the video. I felt like I was on the walk with you. I still get excited when I see the deer run across the golf course.
