My Builder just RUINED my 25K+ deck .. please help!
Comments (18)The cuts are nice and straight ... he used some sort of track/stop to run the saw along. We did have him sand yesterday (with the thought that if that doesn't work, anything else we'd do would be more drastic and the sanding wouldn't matter). It was pouring when we got home so I have to go outside now and see how much it helped. That actually isn't anchorseal, it's all splinters and chew marks ... it looks darker because those are the boards he put down last fall, so they have faded, and the chew stuff exposed the new wood. The screws are a little shiny, but they are countersunk a bit, so as long as you're not looking straight down on them (like I am here), it's really not too obvious ... plus I thought they'd go better when the deck is gray (and if I stain the stain will fill the little sink holes and obscure them a bit). Anyway, I'll post an update tonight with some new pictures ... I know he did go get "another" new blade (with 60 teeth) after we yelled at him, so perhaps the few remaining boards to be cut will be better. Do circular saw blades really run "backwards"? That's what he said ... Thanks for all the support guys! It probably wasn't as bad as I made it out to be but I was REALLY upset when I first saw it (after all, all the other cuts he made on the deck were perfectly smooth). Thanks again, Birgit...See MoreVirginia Pool Builder- Please help!

Comments (6)This is a tough one. I prefer islands, especially with kitchens that have tables. I had an island with an overhang...no one ever sat there, they always stood around it. If they sat they sat at the kitchen table. I replaced my island with another, larger island, and got rid of overhang and replaced with storage. However, I was able to have 42" between DW and island (counter edge to counter edge). I only had 36" before, and I must say it is easier to maneuver around the DW with the extra space. Also, a 2' by 4' island is pretty small. What is the opening on the bottom left of the kitchen? Can that go away so you can use that whole wall? I think a peninsula coming up from the bottom going towards the patio doors could work. The fridge could slide down and a smaller prep sink could go somewhere on that wall or in the peninsula if you wanted. It doesnt look like you have enough room to have a peninsula jutting out by patio doors. Even if you moved sink to peninsula, then the peninsula would have to get wider so people werent sitting in the sink, which would push it further in front ofpatio doors. I'm also just a user, not a designer, fyi....See MoreHelp Please-Island vs. Peninsula dilemma!
Comments (37)Oh, and I could be wrong, but I interpreted the second, single dishwasher drawer to be in that position to accommodate bar glasses and such. I was picturing cabinets in that area that would hold glasses and utensils for the bar, and those things would be used, washed, and kept in that area. Regular dishes would be washed in the other dishwasher and stored nearby. If I'm interpreting your intentions correctly, I see no problem with that dish drawer being where you have it. Problems arise when both dishwashers are used for just any dishes, but that's not how I picture it working in your setup....See More- 11 years ago
